CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Myles Spencer
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of operations on a day-to-day basis at Rugby Canada. The COO will undertake special projects and prepare detailed reports for Rugby Canada and the Chief Executive Officer. This individual acts as a liaison between the CEO, Board of Directors, members and the Provincial Unions, and is also responsible for monitoring the CEO / Rugby Canada’s key relationships with various sport bodies, including the IRB, Sport Canada, Commonwealth Games / Canadian Olympic Committee, etc. This includes preparing drafts of submissions and drafting specific documentation on behalf of the CEO related to reports for, and presentations to, the Board of Directors and key partners. The role includes assisting in the facilitation of Rugby Canada strategic planning, preparing Annual Reports and maintaining and monitoring legal records and Human Resource management records. This person will also monitor the ongoing action items of the union and staff to ensure productivity and efficiency in all areas of the organization.
Myles Spencer is employed as Rugby Canada's Chief Operating Officer, having previously served as Senior Manager, Operations for close to two years. Having transferred to Rugby Canada’s Victoria office in 2008 as Manager of Domestic Competitions & National Teams, Myles returned to the Toronto office in an administrative role as Assistant to the CEO in October 2010. While based in Victoria, Myles led the Canada U20 Men’s team as Manager at the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy in Moscow, Russia and was Tournament Manager of the Americas Rugby Championship (Canada division) in 2009 and the Canadian Rugby Championship in 2010 and 2011. Myles began his time with Rugby Canada as an Intern during the summer of 2006 and joined the organization full-time in June 2007 and has evolved to oversee the operations of the organization in his current role.
Myles was raised in Markham and Stouffville, Ontario and graduated from Acadia University in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Recreation Management degree, minor in Business Administration. His interests lie in sport management and administration of elite competition and he has always had a passion for Rugby. At Acadia Myles was a very involved member of the Acadia RFC on and off the pitch and during the 2005 and 2006 seasons was appointed Coach/Manager of the Acadia Men’s 1st and 2nd teams. During his time with Acadia RFC, Myles won two Maritime Championships and three Nova Scotia Championships as player and coach. Myles played club rugby for the former Markham RFC.
Myles lives with his wife Jillian in Toronto.
