HEAD COACH, NATIONAL SENIOR MEN'S TEAM
Kieran Crowley
The Head Coach retains the responsibility for preparing the national men’s team for competition. The coach’s role extends to ensuring that succession planning pertaining to players is introduced and monitored. This therefore also emphasizes a role in talent identification, squad selection, coaching and team development of the national under 20 teams, Canada ‘A’ squads, Canada Resident squads and National Academy players.
Kieran Crowley joined Rugby Canada in April of 2008 as Head Coach of the National Senior Men’s Team. A former New Zealand All Black (35 matches), born in Kaponga, with 19 Test Appearances from 1983 to 1991, Kieran went on to coach professionally at Taranaki of New Zealand's Provincial Competition, four years as Assistant Coach and another five as Head Coach. He also spent time as an All Black Selector, and In 2007 he guided the New Zealand U19 team to a world championship at the IRB tournament in Belfast.
Kieran was appointed Head Coach of the program following the 2007 Rugby World Cup and coached his first Canadian side at the Barclays Churchill Cup in Ottawa, Ontario. He led Canada on its first ever November Test Series in 2008, with stops in Portugal, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. He helped Canada qualify for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in August of 2009 after defeating the USA in a home/away qualification series and has been a major part of developing Canada’s 7’s program.
Kieran lives in Mill Bay, BC with his wife Sue and three children.
