Doug Crosse
The Communications Manager provides leadership in all areas of communication (both internal and external) as well as serving as Rugby Canada’s point of contact for all external media personnel.
The job involves a commitment to aspects of internal and external communications, media relations, managing archives, and commercial support. A major focus of this role is to keep members informed of events and programs via media releases and website management.
Doug Crosse is the Manager of Communications for Rugby Canada. Doug has been employed with Rugby Canada since 2007. Doug has been instrumental in the creation of a new web platform that drives Rugby Canada’s online presence. As Manager of Communications, Doug leads all forms of communication, both internal and external, and serves as Rugby Canada’s point of contact for all external media personnel. Having traveled to all corners of the world with various national programs, Doug has been on the front lines reporting on Canada’s brightest rugby players and the most significant matches and competitions in recent years. His contributions also include a part in the establishment of the Rugby Canada Online Store, which has provided the organization with a valuable revenue generator and outlet to reach its fans.
Raised in various parts of Canada, including Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec, Doug temporarily settled in North Bay, Ontario where he completed a Diploma in Radio and Television Broadcasting and an Associate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at Canadore College. Throughout his career, Doug has created an on-going web presence for the sport of Rugby since 1995 through successful contract work with leading sporting organizations and freelance reporting work with leading media including the Toronto Star and CBC National Radio, The Score Television Network and the Fan 590 Sports Radio station in Toronto. Doug has a complete working knowledge of multi-media functions on the Internet and has maintained cutting edge knowledge of social media, video editing, and other forms of online interaction.
Doug previously belonged to the Ottawa Irish RFC from 1982 to 1989 and after relocating to Toronto he joined the Toronto Nomads until 1997. In recent years, Doug has been involved as a Coach of a Newmarket Baseball Pee Wee team, which his two sons were members of. He is also a member of the School Council for Bogart Public School in Newmarket, where he runs a newsletter and website on behalf of the school.
Doug lives in Newmarket, Ontario with his wife Maria and two sons, Nicholas and Matthew.
