MANAGER, NATIONAL MEN’S PROGRAM
Gareth Rees
The person in this role will support the Head Coaches of each of the National Team Programs (Senior Men 15’s and 7’s/Centre of Excellence/U20/U19 and U17) as well as the General Manager of Rugby Operations and Performance. The role will also see this person oversee and assist all volunteer team managers for all events, camps and tours and will manage an extended part time management structure that services all programs.
The role includes all management leadership, organizational and administrative matters associated with these activities as well as the long term planning of the programs. It includes, but is not limited to providing guidance, leadership and vision as well as planning, bugeting, management, administration and monitoring of all programs. The Manager, National Men’s Program will ensure there is a strong link between the support team in both Toronto and Victoria and the large network of national program volunteers across the country.
Gareth Rees is currently employed as the Manager, National Men’s Program Manager and was hired in 2012. Prior to coming to Rugby Canada, Gareth was the president of Waterfall Events Ltd, a facility that handles/organizes over 70 events a year including corporate, art showings, weddings, product launches and feature filming.
Gareth also has a long and notable resume when it comes to his experience in the rugby community. Along with his accomplishments on the field as a player, working in a leadership role through various Rugby Canada programs for over 25 years, Gareth also held the position of CEO of Rugby Canada from 2002-2004. From competing as an age grade player, to become a national team player, professional, player’s board representative, U21 National Coach, Professional coach and player agent; Gareth has an extremely well rounded background. He played professionally for several British cluds including the London Wasps as well as the Harlequins FC in England. He still holds the Canadian record for most career test points and in 2011 received the honour of being named into the IRB Hall of Fame.
