HEAD STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH, MEN'S PROGRAM
Andy Evans
The objective of the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Men’s Program is to contribute to the delivery of world-class strength and conditioning (S&C) programs to Rugby Canada’s national program male athletes, equipping them to compete at the highest level in international rugby competitions.
The position involves a commitment to aspects of high performance player development and talent identification with particular focus and emphasis upon all elements of Strength & Conditioning. This position will focus upon the progression of talent-identified players from club, school and/or university participation into Rugby Canada’s national and international level male programs and the role that strength & conditioning plays in this transition.
The person involved in this role is required to coach, prepare individually based fitness programs, manage players, plan programs and manage high performance team programs.
Andrew (Andy) Evans is currently employed as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, Men’s Program for Rugby Canada. Originally from Saskatchewan, and having lived in five different provinces, Andy played rugby for the Saskatoon Wild Oats and Douglas/United RFC. Evans received a Degree in Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Certified Exercise Physiologist. Andy worked with Canada’s Women’s Olympic Soccer Team leading up to the 2012 Summer Olympics where they received a Bronze Medal. Evans also worked with the Silver Medalist Men’s Wheelchair Rugby Team before the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games in London. Evans first worked with Rugby Canada’s Men’s Fifteens Team in their preparation for the 2011 Rugby World Cup then toured with the Men's 2011 Junior World Rugby Trophy U20 team to Georgia. In 2013 Andy joined Rugby Canada full time as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and in May became the Acting Men’s Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Andy is married with twin sons and a daughter who are all very active. Along with keeping up with his family, Andy competes in Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting and is an active member of the Salvation Army.
