Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University Men’s Hockey team is pleased to announce its tenth student athlete commitment for the 2014-15 season. Joining SFU is forward Adam Rossi of Surrey. The 21-year-old is coming off his first season of NCAA Div. III hockey with Buffalo State College. “Adam is someone who was on our radar a year ago when he aged out of junior hockey, so better late than never to get him to our program,” said SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “He was a proven offensive talent in the Pacific Junior Hockey League. Adam has good speed and we expect him to compete for a top nine role on our club.” Rossi, who is listed at 5’10” and 180-pounds, had five goals and three assists in 25 games with Buffalo State College in 2013-14. “I’m excited to attend SFU because of the enthusiasm for development and winning that Coach Coletta has shown me from knowing him for a couple of years now,” said Rossi. “With a championship in mind, I see a lot of potential for this team and my development at SFU.” Rossi started his junior hockey career in 2008-09 with Port Moody of the Pacific Junior Hockey League as an affiliate player, but didn’t get into any games. He played in nine games with the Panthers in 2009-10, chipping in with one assist. Rossi played the next three seasons with the Abbotsford Pilots, tallying 43 goals and 89 assists in 129 games. He also had 11 goals and 18 assists in 41 playoff games as the Pilots advanced to the league finals in 2011 and 2012. Rossi played one game with the BC Hockey League’s Chilliwack Chiefs as an affiliate player in 2011-12. “Adam had a pretty good freshmen year at Buffalo State last season and I'm confident he will be a solid addition to our program,” continued Coletta. Rossi is the third player with NCAA experience to commit to SFU for the upcoming season. “I’d like to think that I’m a smart hockey player who can get it done at both ends of the ice. I’d say my best attributes are my skating and play making ability. My goal for this season is to win a BCIHL championship and nothing less,” added Rossi. Rossi joins goaltenders Jordan Liem and Dominic Stadnyk, defensemen Mathew Berry-Lamontagna and Robby Jang, and forwards Saylor Preston, Vance Bridgman, Adam Callegari, Tyler Basham and Matthew Luongo as ten recruits thus far in what is expected to be a very strong recruiting class for the 2014-15 season for SFU. SFU Men's Hockey was re-established in 2004 and competes in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL). The program focuses on competition, academics, and community service as its core values. Last year, SFU placed second in BCIHL standings while also earning strong results in exhibition games against NCAA Division 1, CIS, and ACAC opponents.
