SFU Hockey: Staff - Training/Medical

TRAINING/MEDICAL STAFF

The Simon Fraser University Men's Ice Hockey program provides its student athletes with focused strength and fitness and personal training programs developed and monitored by team staff. Athletes also have access to chiropractic and rehabilitation services.

DR. LEIF SIGURDSON - Head Chiropractor

Dr. Leif Sigurdson is a graduate of the University of Manitoba: Bachelor of Science, 1998; and the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College: Doctor of Chiropractic, 2004; recipient of the College of Chiropractic Sciences External Clinic Award. Dr. Sigurdson has been with the SFU hockey team since 2007. He is also very active in the running community and is on the medical team at the Vancouver Marathon and Sun Run. Dr. Sigurdson is a certified provider of Active Release Techniques and has sports injury practices at Broadway Station Wellness in Vancouver and Proactive Chiropractic in Langley. DR. HAFEEZ MERANI, BKin, DC, CSCS - Team Chiropractor

After obtaining his Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia, Dr. Hafeez Merani graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College as Class Valedictorian with Clinical Honours. Dr. Merani was bestowed with numerous accolades, including the Board of Governors' Chair's Award and Marilyn Phillips Award both recognizing leadership and service to the student body. Dr. Merani works at Metrotown Family Chiropractic and enjoys treating individuals of all fitness levels to empower them with the knowledge he has acquired. Dr. Merani is known to spend time with his patients, ensuring that they understand rehab exercises and can heal to their maximal potential. In his spare moments, Hafeez enjoys giving back to the community and was recently part of the Medical Staff for the 2012 BC Seniors Games and Terry Fox Run. DR. STEVEN VIERBOOM, BSc, BHB, DC - Team Chiropractor

Dr. Vierboom graduated from Concordia University College of Alberta in 2008, obtaining Bachelor of Science before attending the University of Western States, graduating with Bachelor in Human Biology and Doctor of Chiropractic in 2011. Dr. Vierboom practices out of Catalyst Kinetics Group in Burnaby, a multidisciplinary and state-of-the-art athletic training facility and integrated family health clinic. RYAN OSTONAL - Equipment Manager

Ryan was born in Burnaby and grew up in Port Coquitlam, BC. He is in his final year at SFU, majoring in Economics. After joining the team in 2010, Ryan became the head equipment manager and has been a mainstay with the organization both on the road and at home in Burnaby. Apart from hockey, Ryan is an avid tennis fan.
