SFU Hockey: Travel Blog Victoria
SFU HOCKEY TRAVEL BLOG
FEBRUARY 28th - MARCH 1st

Friday – 1:30 – All Aboard
We had some much fun last weekend we decided to continue our travel blog in Victoria. We made it to Tsawwassen crazy fast for the 3:00 ferry. The bus is a lot livelier today, compared to our early morning and late night drives last week. It helps that we just have a short drive before everyone can spread out on the ferry.

3:00 – Setting Sail
It’s a perfect afternoon for a ferry sailing. Clear skies, fairly calm water, warm sun (well… at least for February.) Plus there's all that coastal BC scenery to take it. I've already spotted a few groups of sea lions along our route.

7:30 – Game Time

The rink tonight is small, you’ve probably played atom hockey in larger rinks. In fact, I’m currently typing this on the floor. This is the only place I could find with a place to charge my phone and some certain loyal Twitter followers are counting on the updates. (I’m talking to you @SeniorNanny.)

They do have a few benches, but they’re all inside an enclosed area, where you can’t hear the announcer, which is how you end up crediting goals to Tyler Mah instead of Kale Wild. Oops.

Considering the rink size, a surprising amount of UVic students were in attendance, armed with signs to support their friends on the ice, powered by the free cans of Rock Star being handed out all game.

10:30 – Shoot Out Winner
It came down to a shootout to end it, but SFU took the victory, my first on the road, which is probably a good thing, otherwise I might be banned from playoffs.

The game was evidently such a powerhouse that we knocked the power right out in the Ian Stewart Complex shortly after we took the win.

The win means we’re momentarily back in first, Selkirk needs to win their final game to take back their lead. With TRU and TWU also playing Saturday night third and fourth place are also up in the air.

Saturday – 7:30 – Early Wake-Up Call
The wake-up call was early this morning; we have a 9:00 ferry to catch. It’s cloudier and the water looks choppier now, so I think we’re in for a bumpier ride.

11:30 – Home Again
To the island and back with a win in less than 24 hours. It was a short trip, but we came home with the two points we needed, and a happy, if sleepy bus.
