SFU Hockey: Team - In the Community
Simon Fraser University Men's Hockey works closely with the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association in providing opportunities for mentorship and hockey skills development for children and teens enrolled in Minor Hockey. SFU players and coaches help during regular Minor Hockey practices, and Minor Hockey players and families are often in attendance at SFU games. This program is as important for the SFU players as it is for the Minor Hockey players, as community service is considered an extremely important part of player development within this organization.

Simon Fraser University Men's Hockey has announced support of the You Can Play Project. The team will take on initiatives to continually ensure equality, respect, and safety for all athletes in university hockey athletics, regardless of sexual orientation.

Heros Hockey

Simon Fraser University Men's Hockey is proud to partner with Heros Hockey in support of the education, self-esteem building, and life skills training of youth from economically challenged neighborhoods. SFU players wish to help build a fun and safe environment where each child is considered a HERO

Simon Fraser University Men's Hockey is proud to partner with Canucks Autism Network (CAN) in support of their I CAN Skate Program. SFU players will be attending a couple of their I CAN skate sessions throughout the year and interact with their members. There will also be a fundraiser held this year to raise funds for CAN.

Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver

Simon Fraser University Men's Hockey is proud to support Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver, a registered charity and community-based organization that has been operating in the Lower Mainland since 1957. They offer friendship-based mentoring programs for boys and girls and provide volunteer opportunities for men and women.

We have now announced support of the Gianfranco Giammaria Memorial Society, which aims to educate the public on SADS, and provide grants for the purchase of AED's to be placed in recreational and community facilities. Thanks to the GGMS, Bill Copeland Arena, home of SFU Hockey, is equipped with AED's.
