Graduating Players and Scholarship Recipients

Graduating Players and Scholarship Recipients

Moira Bryan

With our regular season coming to a close, we wanted to take some time to honour our graduating players. These players have been with the Pack for years, and we would not be where we are without them! We also wanted to highlight the players who have received scholarships from the league, and congratulate them on their achievements away from the rink.

Scholarship Winners

Three members of the team have been selected for three separate scholarships this season. The Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society Scholarships are awarded to players, game officials, and therapists who distinguish themselves in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.

Congratulations to #21 Alexandra Black on receiving this award! Black is currently in her third year of a combined BSc in Kinesiology and BE in Education, with a minor in mathematics.

Within the Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society exists the Bob Clark Memorial scholarship, which is awarded in memory of Bob Clark to a player with academic achievements who excels in their contributions back to the community for the many volunteer hours they achieve. Congratulations to #8 Payden Bialowas on receiving this award! Bialowas will be graduating from Grant Macewan University this year with a BSc in Psychology. She hopes to begin her Masters studies in Occupational Therapy in the fall.

The Alberta Junior Athletic Award recognizes and rewards junior athletes and provides an incentive for athletes to continue with their post-secondary education. Within the Alberta Junior Athletic Awards exists the Mark Goodkey Memorial Scholarship for the applicant with the highest academic standing. Congratulations to #12 Jacqueline Cowling on receiving this award! Cowling is in her second year of a BCom at the University of Alberta studying business, and is currently the Vice President of Academics of the Business Students Association.

Graduating Players

We are very sad to see our Pack members go, but we take the time to remember these players and the important contributions that they have made to the team during their time with the Wolfpack. This year, we will be saying good-bye to our four overage players; #8 Payden Bialowas, #15 Tyra Anderson, #18 Tessa Ross, and #5 Claudine Boucher.

#8 Payden Bialowas

Bialowas first joined the Wolves in 2019 following minor hockey. Her grit and hard work have been a valuable asset to the team, along with her prowess in the face-off circle. Bialowas will be graduating from Grant MacEwan University this spring and hoping to pursue her Masters in Occupational Therapy in the fall.

"It has been such a great privilege to play with the Wolves over the past few years. I have made so many life long friendships and am so lucky to have played the game I love with such an amazing group. I will truly miss coming to the rink each week but will continue to look back at all the special memories from road trips to team buildings, and all the amazing times and laughs that have come with it." -Payden

#15 Tyra Anderson

Anderson joined the Wolves in 2021 following her college hockey career in Red Deer. She has added speed and determination to the wings, and has been a main point producer the past two years. She joined the leadership group as an A in 2023 and is a mentor to many of the younger players on the team. She also made an appearance at the 2023 All Star Game. Anderson will continue working at a school in Edmonton until June, then plans to move to Calgary and get a dog.

"The highlight of my time with the Wolves has undoubtedly been the incredible friendships I've built with teammates and coaches. They have played a crucial role in making Edmonton feel like a second home. Joining the Wolves serves as the ideal ending to my hockey career thanks to the culture that embraces a shared passion for the game and the importance of having fun." -Tyra

#18 Tessa Ross

Ross joined the Wolves in 2021 with Anderson following her college hockey career in Red Deer. Ross has been a top blue liner since the moment she joined the Pack, and can be relied on in any situation, both defensively and offensively. She joined the leadership group as an A in 2022 and leads by example both on ice and off ice. She also made an appearance at the 2022 All Star Game, and won the team award in 2022 for Most Outstanding Defenseman. Ross will graduate from the University of Alberta this spring with a BA in Business, and plans to move back home to Spirit River to be with her boyfriend, and close to her family and the job that she has had for the past three summers. She also plans to remain in the local hockey community by playing in a rec league and hopefully coaching.

"My favourite part of being a Wolf is the easy camaraderie that I have always found in the girls and coaches. I am fortunate enough to have found lifelong friendships throughout my years here and have had many memorable experiences." -Tessa

#5 Claudine Boucher

Boucher joined the Wolves in 2018 following minor hockey. She helped the Wolves win the championship in her rookie season. Boucher is a force on the back end and is excellent at rushing the puck and known for her slap shots, affectionately nicknamed 'Bouch Bombs,' in addition to her defensive play. She joined the leadership group as an A in 2020, and then was awarded the C in 2022. Boucher truly loves every single person on the Wolves team and makes sure to befriend every single player, frequently hanging out with and checking in with teammates throughout the season. She has won the team Bill Porter Award for sportsmanship and camaraderie in 2022 and 2023, and was awarded the team award for Most Outstanding Defenseman in 2023 as well. She also made an appearance at the 2023 All Star Game.

"I have grown and learned so much these past 6 years, the memories and friendships I have made will be something I cherish forever. This team is truly a family and make the rink feel like home. I am beyond grateful and extremely fortunate to have been surrounded by such great humans. Thank you to all the players and coaches who has made these past few years the best." -Claudine

We extend congratulations to the players selected for the scholarships and are impressed with your hard work ethics and academic standings! We are sad to see our Pack members go but reflect on the positive impacts that they have made on this team over the years and are excited to see what is next for them!
