The Wolves took to the road this month with two overnight road trips and a handful of other games closer to home. They went 5-1-0-0 in January and solidified first place in the North with 59 points, and are first place in win percentage in the league with .819.

The Wolves kicked off 2023 with a game vs the Fort Saskatchewan Fury at home on Sunday, Jan. 8. Both teams battled through the first period till #17 Bree Edwards put one in on the power play with three minutes left in the period. Edwards potted her second power play just two minutes later to put the Wolves up 2-0 after the first. #14 Logan Basterash added to their lead eight minutes in to the second. #22 Grace Flanagan tallied another for the Wolves on the power play with less than a minute in the period. The period wasn't over yet though, and #88 Talia Teliani scored with just ten seconds left in the second period. #30 Andrea Peric held strong through the third period and stopped all 17 shots to get a shutout and help the Wolves win 5-0!



Next weekend the team got on the bus on Saturday to travel down to Lethbridge. They stopped for dinner in Calgary at the Piebiak house and enjoyed some home cooked food and played some team building games. They faced off on Sunday, Jan. 15 against the Lethbridge Eagles. Edwards opened the scoring for the Wolves with five minutes left in the period. Two minutes later on the power play, #5 Claudine Boucher scored again to lengthen the Wolves lead. The Eagles were able to put themselves on the board before the period was over, making it 2-1 after one period of play. The Eagles scored another on the power play to tie the game up in the second. They scored another midway through the third and although the Wolves battled hard, they were unable to score another goal. #31 Paige Thomas stopped 29 of 32 shots for a final score of 3-2.



On Saturday Jan. 21 the Wolves took on the Calgary Titans at Castledowns rec centre. Both teams battled hard through the first but the game remained scoreless after one period. Boucher opened the scoring less than a minute into the second period with a power play goal. Play continued through the period and #15 Tyra Anderson scored with less than a minute left to put the Wolves up by two heading into the third period. The Titans answered back in the third with a goal four minutes in to the period. Boucher scored again three minutes later to increase the Wolves' lead. The Titans then scored two more goals to tie it, at the twelve minute and three minute marks. Luckily, Anderson scored one more goal to give the Wolves back the lead and make sure the game ended in regulation. Peric stopped 22 of 25 shots to give the Wolves the 4-3 win!



The next day on Sunday Jan. 22 the Wolves took on the Calgary Jags at home. After one period of play the game remained scoreless. The Jags opened the scoring with a power play goal 6 minutes into the second period. Halfway through the period, Basterash tied the game with a power play goal. Heading into the third all tied at one, both teams battled hard through the first fifteen minutes. Teliani was able to give the Wolves their first lead of the game with a power play goal less than five minutes left in the game. Just fifteen seconds later, #4 Nicole Thomas scored another goal for the Wolves and increased their lead. P. Thomas turned away 28 of 29 shots to help the Wolves win 3-1!



The following weekend, the Wolves took to the road again on Saturday, Jan. 28 to take on the Cochrane Chaos. Halfway through the first period, #11 Sydney Dutertre opened the scoring for the Wolves with a power play goal. In the second period, Edwards increased the Wolves' lead six minutes in. Boucher added to that lead just one minute later, and later in the period, Edwards tallied another on the power play. In the third, Anderson scored three minutes into the period to further increase the Wolves' lead. The Chaos were able to score their first of the game later in the period. Edwards got another on the power play with 3 minutes left in the game to solidify her hat trick. P. Thomas stopped 27 of 28 shots to help the Wolves win 6-1!



The Wolves only have three regular season games left prior to playoffs. They are looking forward to closing out their North division play and getting ready for playoffs. The Wolves are celebrating their graduating players on Sunday, Feb. 5 with Senior Night vs. the Amazons, at Castledowns at 6 pm. We hope to see you there!
