With 3:21 left in the second overtime period London’s Ashley McManus burieda smart pass from Nicole Silvestrin – earning London its first WinterProvincial Championship. After a very respectable preliminary round of 1 win 1 tie and 1 loss – TNTearned a spot in the Semi Final Game. In the Semi Final Game London relentlessly pressured Scarborough and theirgoalie Carly LeBlanc. Finally – with 4:01 left in the first overtime periodLondon Captain Andrea Walters broke in and scored on an excellent deke moveon Carly. Carly faced over 70 shots in 2 games against London allowing only2 goals. Both teams knew goals would be at a premium as Carly and Londongoalie Kim Gatto were both solid in their Friday night match up when thegame ended 1 – 1. “Our total team defense is getting better every game. Kimmade plenty of smart plays keeping the play going and not getting many faceoffs in our zone. Giving our offense plenty of opportunities. Carly is aheck of a goalie – Scarborough should be proud.” London Coach David Dudzic. The Championship game started in high drama style as London was called for aplenty shot with 15 seconds into the game. Toronto’s Sara Davidson madequick work of the opportunity giving Toronto a 1 – 0 lead. However –London’s Annalise Roby tied up the game 12 seconds later on a great give andgo play with Andrea Walters. With the game 27 seconds old this looked to bea shoot out. The next 56:12 was played scoreless with back and forth solidplay by both teams. Then in double overtime on a highlight reel, story book,heart-stopping tic-tac-toe play started by Andrea Walters creating an oddman advantage then passing off to Nicole Silvestrin with Nicole then slidinga slick pass through traffic finding Ashley where Ashley one-timed a shot tothe back of the net. “Wow – that’s a way to end a game and a tournament.Angela (Toronto’s goalie) is a great goalie. We have faced her before. Weknew we had to be good defensively because we have never scored against herand certainly did not expect to score 2 goals on her. Again - Kim gave ouroffence a chance.” London Coach David Dudzic. Toronto’s goalie Angela Cairney played stellar as did her counterpartLondon’s Kim Gatto. Angela recorded the tournament’s best winning percentageand goals against with Kim being selected as a first team all star. London’sAndrea Walters was the tournament’s overall MVP.
