Victoria, B.C.- Seven players from the London Ball Hockey Association have travelled to Victoria to compete in the CBC "Play On" National Street Hockey Championships.
Team London Skank Budda comprised of members from various teams in our league won the privilege to compete for the National trophy the Redwood cup. They won the regional qualifier in London in the summer of 2010 that gave them the birth to The Nationals. The tournament is taking place over two days, Feb 11-12, 2011, and is a featured part of CBC's Hockey Day in Canada.
The tournament has expanded this year to include 46 teams from all across the country. Over 3200 teams competed in 15 tournaments across Canada. Each team invited had either won a national qualifier or competed in last years event. Along with the glory of being crowned Canada's best street hockey team the winners get their names engraved on the Redwood Cup (which resides in the Hockey Hall of Fame!) and the $20,000.00 grand prize.
London has been represented in the past at nationals by members of the London Red Team, and Ingersoll Assssins in 2010 and Skank Budda in 2009. If you'd like to follow all the action you can do so online at www.redwoodcup.ca and a live feed from CBC sports.
