Adam Troy steps down as Men’s General Manager
Leaves a legacy of growth and developmentAdam Troy has chosen to step down as the General Manager of the Men’s National Team. Except for a short stint in 2023-2024, Troy has served in this role since he founded USA Floorball in 1997 and the US fielded their first national team for the 2002 World Floorball Championships. The team under his leadership and direction has competed in every cycle since then.
Adam has been instrumental in USA Floorball since its founding, serving as Executive Director under four presidents. In that time, he also served as principal content creator and media contact for the federation. Hundreds of American players and fans have appreciated his tireless work “doing his thing” along the boards at countless US tournaments and events.
“There are not many things in my life I think anyone could have foreseen. Two great parallel paths were formed in some ways. On the one I created and grew USA Floorball, on the other I found my way forward in the content creator sphere and these journeys where often intertwined! Juggling roles has not always been easy but at times it has been a large part of the fun.”
Troy’s career with USA Floorball started as a dream to play for Team USA at the World Championships. While playing in Sweden he found there actually was no current floorball association for the United States. So he successfully lobbied the IFF to recognize Caltech, where there was some floorball activity, as the United States Floorball Association (USFbA) in 1997. He had the express goal of competing with other Americans at the 2000 World Floorball Championships. They didn’t get the team organized in time, but Adam continued to drive at his purpose. The US joined the IFF formally in 2001 and in 2002, the US were the sole Americas participant at the WFC in the “B” division, and he played as a goalie in the next three cycles along with being General Manager for the team and continuing his work with the USA Floorball Board.
“Something many may have missed is that the three of the four first USA Floorball Presidents where part of the USMNT program before stepping up into that role. Something I will always be proud of.”
In 2010, qualification was introduced to the championships and the now-traditional competition against Canada began. Since then, the US has won 6, lost 12, and drawn once against our northern rivals in WFC play. The team has reached the final round of the Championships under the new format four times and has finished as high as 11
th (twice).
“During my time as General Manager I have played at three World Championships and a number of WFCQs. A definite highlight was hearing the national anthem at our first WFC game ever against Belgium. By the time of
the first whistle of that game there was a tear or two. It took many years of work to get to that point. That same World Championship I was named MVP against Australia, which will always be a fond memory.”
Troy’s legacy is a consistency of participation and continued growth. The stability of the Men’s team has given rise to a significant Under-19 participation, especially in the United States. The U19 program has reached the final round of the WFC twice in the previous four cycles and today boasts over 60 domestically based players training for international competition.
Because of Adam’s leadership, the next generation of managers, coaches and players is ready to step forward and continue to grow the game in the United States. His legacy will live on and the continued passion for the game and the drive to constantly improve will forever be a part of USA Floorball.
“It was both a hard and easy decision to pass the torch of the USMNT. From founding USA Floorball to the last amazing weekend in Belgium it has been a journey I will never forget. But I have always felt the USMNT should be led from the states and that new energy is needed to take the program to new heights. I wouldn't know where to start if I were to list the people to thank but without so many people, friends, putting in their time, energy and many times money, this program would not have been possible. And so many great players and coaches have passed through the program and many are still in it, they have all made all the work worth it. The USA Floorball community is the reason I stuck this out for so long and will probably still be seen occasional along the boards, a place some might say is my second home.”
We thank Adam for all the tireless effort and travel he has put in on behalf of the Men’s program and wish him well in his future endeavors!
