Challengers Blue Jays Trip
|
|
On Friday June 7th a team of Whalley Challenger division players set off for Toronto to participate in the jointly sponsored Baseball Canada and Toronto Blue Jay National Challenger baseball day. After settling into the hotel, a few headed out into the wild Toronto Friday night crowd to witness the Blue jays sneak past the Texas Rangers and to get a feel for the stadium in anticipation of the Saturday afternoon festivities. The team was up Saturday morning and ready to head off the Rogers Centre for the 1:00 pm start. The game flew by for 8 innings and just as we were shuttled down to field level Texas tied the game and we were headed to extra innings. And wouldn't you know it we got to see another full game as the game went 18 innings before the Blue jays pulled out the win. Finally , we were on the field and after a quick run of the bases we were ready for our game. With the support of a few Baseball Canada representatives pitching and acting as buddies all had a great time and we certainly were the best dressed team! The whole team had an awesome time traversing to Toronto, seeing the Blue jays play and finally getting on the field at the Rogers Centre. An experience that will remain for a lifetime. Everyone involved thanks the Whalley Little League Board especially Mark, Dave and Ed (for those great looking uniforms) for pushing things forward and helping us to make sure that the trip happened. As well, the Challenger players and parents are ever so grateful to Liz for her unbelievable commitment and perseverance in making it all happen.
