: Umpires

February 21, 2014

Fellow and future umpires,
Let me join you in welcoming the 2014 baseball season. If you are a youth twelve years or older skip to the section below about how to be an umpire and what training and experience Whalley will provide to prepare you. Mom, Dad and other adults please continue before skipping to the next section. I need your help. Whalley does not have enough adults umpiring, the bad news is we're short adult umpires but the good news is the number of volunteers is growing. Umpiring doesn't have the same appeal that managing, coaching or just being a fan has but you'll have the best view and see things both amazing and otherwise. I've seen grand slams, perfect games, unparallelled sportsmanship and two World Series. But speaking personally the best memories for me as an umpire and Little League volunteer are of being on the field when my son played. No promises but the time can be priceless and experience is not required.

Please call me and thank you in advance.

Let's continue on ...

How to be an Umpire
You should be twelve years or older. You don't have to be a baseball player or have prior experience. New and second year umpires umpiring the Majors and Minors should attend the Whalley umpire clinic starting Monday, February 24th. Umpires starting their third year or wanting to umpire Junior's and above should attend a Level 2 clinic. Adults or parents should contact me for information on how they can help in umpiring. Whalley will provide training clinics for umpires after which games are assigned during the season to those qualified and available. All umpires are expected to attend a clinic this year.

Thank you again for your interest, please see the schedule below and I look forward to working with you on the field.
