WHALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE PARENT INFORMATION SHEET

When does the season start / end?
Schedules are finalized in March, but plan on Late March early April start for most divisions. The season ends anywhere from mid to late June. Summer ball All-star teams will be selected shortly after the regular season ends and these teams play into the summer. All age groups and levels of play 8 years old and up have a summer ball opportunity.

Where are the games played?
All divisions play at the Whalley Athletic Park at 106a Ave and 133rd street (near BC Lions training facility and Binnie turf soccer field). Junior and older divisions interlock with other leagues and travel is required.

What days do they play?
Be prepared to play one day of the week at 6pm and 2 weekend games. Game times will vary during the day.
The season is short but busy.

When are Opening Day / Closing Day Ceremonies?
The Opening Day Ceremony is scheduled for beginning of April, 2014. Closing Day Ceremony will be is scheduled in  mid June.

What equipment does my child need?
All players require only a glove and Jock/Jill. All other equipment and uniforms are provided. Cleats are recommended but not required. (Blastball and Mini players keep their team hat and team T-shirt)
Players 8-14 require grey baseball pants available at any baseball store.

What team will my child play on?
All registered players will be placed on a team. In the Mini Division there are no evaluations, the Player Agent places players on teams balanced by age. In the 8-18 divisions the team Managers and Coaches draft players to teams based on player evaluations.
9-12 Evaluations will be TBA, Watch for times on the website.
Watch the website for other age evaluation dates the week before and after the 9-12 evaluations.

How will I know if the evaluations have been cancelled due to rain?
All players should be registered prior to evaluations to allow for scheduling. Registrations will be accepted at evaluations. If the weather is questionable, we suggest you go to the ballpark. Every effort is made to keep the evaluations as scheduled. If the weekend is a total loss due to the weather notice will be posted on the website and the schedule shifts to the following weekend, same times. If in doubt, show up at the park or check the Whalley Little League website, Facebook or Twitter.

When should I expect to hear from my child’s coach/manager?
The older divisions usually get started a couple of weeks before the younger divisions. Every player should be contacted by the end of March with what team he/she has been allocated or drafted to. If you have not been informed by the first week of April, please contact your division Player Agent (see Board of directors on home page).

How can I get involved?
Parent participation is crucial to the success of each ball season. Volunteering as a Coach,Scorekeeper, or helping with field and park maintenance reduces the workload so we can all enjoy watching the ball games.
Training for Coaches and scorekeepers is provided.

Umpiring:
Umpiring is a valuable part of the game. It can be a rewarding experience for youth 11 years or older and adults. Training and certification is provided. Interested parents, relatives or friends can contact our umpire in chief or player agents.
