We supply on loan,  all basic equipment save for the football shoes. While football specific shoes are ideal, at the younger levels soccer shoes will do. The equipment that we lend the player includes: helmet, mouthguard, chinstrap, jaw pads, Shoulder pads, Hip/Tail/thy and knee pads. Practice jersey, game/practice pants. two belts for the pants and the hip/tail pads. There are other products that players can use and may choose to, but those are optional accessories ies gloves, forearm pads, hard shell chinstrap etc...

Players only need to supply their footwear. At the Flag, Atom, Pee Wee and Junior Bantam divisions, all players may only wear molded cleats(shoes) While football cleats are available for the younger levels, soccer cleats will do. Screw-in plastic replaceable studs are permitted and genereally prefered. NO METAL CLEATS OR METAL PARTS SUCH AS TIPS!

While it is always desireable to have experience at anything we do, it is not necessary. Football has a long preseason and this allows even novices at the older levels to pick up the game. We practice two times per week, usually a Monday and Wednesday or a Tuesday and Thursday. All teams except Flag teams practice for two hours per practice.

Burnaby Minor Football sets July aside and encourages our players to use July for Vacations. We will maintain less formal practices for all levels to continue, conditioning and skill development for those kids who are in town-don't waste this time if you are available.!

In August, teams will take part in 2 tournaments(AT NO EXTRA COST) Tournaments consist of 3 to 4 mini-games that are 20 to 25 minutes of running time. The tournament for the team is over in 2 to 3 hours. This gives the kids a sense of the game and the coaches a feel for the team.

Exhibition games will be arranged for Bantam and Midgets.

The season starts on the Labour day weekend and the kids will play 9 or 10 games(most games are on Sundays) 1 game per weekend until 10 weeks have passed, then playoffs.

Practices during the season may include a Saturday or Friday evening 1 hour "walk-thru".

Autumn practices are set once the practice fields are allocated in July.

The Burnaby Lions Game field is and usual practice field is located at Burnaby Lakes Athletic Park(Also refered to as 8-Rinks due to its close proximity to that Ice complex. The Field is Artificial turf and is being replaced at this moment. It will be game ready sometime in August. The field has a Tower for Scouting, Announcing over the PA system and scoreboard control. We expect to use all of these ammenities.

We encourage kids to multi-sport, it is great for their development. We understand that some conflict may be inevitable but take this approach: Kids are expected to fullfill the obligation to their current teammates(their baseball team for instance) and then commit to the football team. That means if their is a practice conflict, the first sport is the priority. Having said that, football is unique in terms of the specific tasks attendant to each position and each play.

THIS PARAGRAPH IS VERY IMPORTANT! FOOTBALL IS A FULL CONTACT SPORT. PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO BE AT PRACTICE EVEN WHILE INJURED. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PERFORMANCE WHICH WILL IMPACT ON ANOTHER PLAYER AND UNLIKE OTHER SPORTS, A PLAYERS LACK OF KNOWLEDGE THAT RESULTS FROM A FAILURE TO ATTEND PRACTICES MAY RESULT IN ANOTHER PLAYER BEING INJURED. ALL PLAYERS ARE TO BE AT PRACTICE ON TIME AND READY TO GO. LATENESS WILL RESULT IN SANSITIONS AGAINS THE LATE PLAYER.

PLAYERS MUST ATTEND ALL GAMES! FAILURE TO ATTEND WITHOUT PRIOR EXCUSE BY THE HEAD COACH MAY RESULT IN TERMINATION.

Player attendance is to ensure safety and success.

Football is a sport that requires courage, commitment and accountability. Size is not as important as heart. We will practice and play and; require that players be accountable to the team, their teammates, the coaching staff
and their families. It is about character.
