Landon Ferraro will be bringing some major silver to the BWC on Monday, July 29.
Ferraro, 21, will be displaying the Calder Cup, the American Hockey League championship trophy for friends and fans from 1:00 – 3:00 upstairs in BWC Banquet Hall.
Ferraro who was born in Trail, BC in 1991, played peewee and bantam minor hockey at BWC, and Major Midget with the Vancouver North West Giants in 2006-2007, where he scored 21-13-34 in 25 games, before moving to the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL, who had drafted him second overall in the bantam draft.
In three seasons with the Rebels, Ferraro put up 66-59-125 with 219 PIM before being moved to the Everett SilverTips in his final year of major junior.
He was drafted 32nd overall by the Detriot Red Wings in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, and played his first year of pro hockey with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL in 2011-2012, where he scored 9-11-20 in 56 games, ranking second in rookie scoring.
This year Ferraro played 72 games and scored 24 goals with 23 assists, with 44 penalty minutes, more than doubling his first year production. In 24 playoff games this year, Ferraro scored 5-11-16.
The Grand Rapids Griffins finished third in the Western Conference of the AHL with 92 points, in a very tight group, four points behind second place Toronto Marlies and one win and five points behind the conference leading Texas Stars.
The Griffins defeated the Marlies 4-2 in the semi-finals and then downed the Syracuse Crunch 4-2 in the finals.

The Calder Cup is the second oldest cup trophy in professional hockey. Named after the NHL’s first president Frank Calder, the trophy was first awarded to the Syracuse Stars in 1937. The Calder Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL Rookie of the Year is also named in his honor.
The AHL consists of 30 teams, each affiliated with an NHL club, with 26 US and 4 Canadian teams. The Abbotsford Heat are the closest AHL team in this market.
