Nail-Biting Finishes Mark Playoff Quarter and Semi Finals Action
- Submitted by

Quarter Final 1: Taipei Bears 6, Taipei Wolves 7 (shoot –out)

The first quarter final was a rematch of last year’s semifinal contest which the Bears won handily on their way to the 06-07 Championship. In this year’s match-up, the teams exchanged goals all game in a hard-fought, physical contest. Wolves’ captain Bob MacLeod ended the CIHL’s longest-ever game with a shoot-out goal to put the Wolves into the semifinals against the second-seeded Taichung Lions.

Quarter Final 2: Chiayi Sharks 8, Hsinchu Raptors 6

Devoting their playoff run to their fallen team leader, Matt Stever, the inspired Chiayi Sharks jumped on Hsinchu Raptors miscues early and never looked back. A brilliant offensive game by Hubert Li  (Raptors) was not enough to overcome the Raptors’ defensive gaffes. Chris Robison (Sharks) impressed fans and teammates with a meat-and-potato work ethic and a knack for being in the right place at the right time.

Semi Final 1: Chiayi Sharks 9, Taipei Tigers 6

Many were expecting the top-seeded Tigers (winners of their last 5 regular-season games) to dominate the Sharks, a team that many were once predicting would not even make the playoffs. While the Tigers did start fast, scoring on their first three shots of the game, the Sharks did not collapse and took the game from an over-confident-looking Tigers squad.

Semi final 2: Taipei Wolves 6, Taichung Lions 7

In what was easily the most exciting finish in CIHL history, local player Dennis Chou  launched the Lions into their first ever finals   berth by scoring the game-winner with 0.2 seconds left in the game. The Wolves had managed to battle back from a 6-3 deficit in the third, but fell just short in their second nail-biter in as many nights. Despite questions about goaltending, both Andrew Lunman (Wolves) and Jeff Redl (Lions) came through with big stops at key moments.
