After dropping a close opening game vs St. George, and then slugging their way to their first win vs Six Nations, the U11 Boys team took on a tough Jarvis squad in their third game of the season on Thursday night.
Getting the start, pitcher Hayden B and strong defensive play behind him in the field limited Jarvis to 1 run in the frame. In the bottom half, Layton H and Owen M would get on base to start the game for the Comets, before being moved over and cashed in by Cole V, Davin S and Mason T to give Caledonia the 2-1 lead after one inning of play.
In the 2nd, Caledonia's defense once again stood tall behind Hayden B, who also struck out 2 in the inning, limiting Jarvis to two runs in the top half. In the bottom half of the 2nd inning, the Caledonia offense went to work. James G led off with a single, before Pierce H and Lucas M also got on base, scoring later on a hit by Hayden B and walk by Drew G. Noah K drew a walk to cash in a run, loading the bases for Carson P, who drove a ball to deep right field, hit a grand slam to end the inning with the 5-run max for the Comets, giving them the 7-3 after two innings.
In the 3rd inning, Lucas M came into the game to pitch, and limited Jarvis to 3 runs in the inning. Jarvis put pressure on the Comets defense, but a great play and throw across the diamond by 3rd baseman Sam S helped keep Jarvis's offense at bay. In the bottom half, Zach A battled Jarvis's pitcher in a strong at bat, before singles by Layton H and Cole V, and a walk by Owen M all put them on base before each of them scored on a walk by Davin S and sacrifice by Mason T.
Jarvis once again scored 3 runs in the top half of the 4th before Pierce H and Lucas M singled in the bottom half, Pierce H scoring an insurance run to give Caledonia the 11-9 victory.
Caledonia takes on Cayuga next week at home.
