It took a couple games for the bats to get going, but the U13 Boys team's offence exploded for 17 runs en route to a 17-13 victory over Sheffield Monday night.
Mason B took to the mound to open the game for the Comets. The first play of the game set the tone defensively for the Comets, with Mason H making a solid play in the field and gunning out the leadoff runner at first. Sheffield would be held to 3 runs in the first, before the Comets had their first at-bats of the game. For the Comets, the first two batters, Jayce B and Mason B got on base, before Cayde B drove a ball to deep left field, tying the game with a 3-run homerun. Ben Sh and Owen L proceeded to get on base before Curtis S hit a ball in the infield, hustling to first base to force a wide throw that plated two more runs for the Comets. The score after 1 inning was Caledonia 5, Sheffield 3.
In the 2nd, Sheffield's offence exploded for 5 runs on some deep-hit balls to the outfield, but the Comets wouldn't let this deter them. Mason H, Eli J, Trey S, Ben St, and Jayce B would all score runs to put the Comets back on top.
Cayde B came in to pitch the third inning, and with some excellent defence behind him, limited Sheffield to one run in the frame. Back on offence in the bottom half of the inning, Owen L, Curtis S, and Mason H would get on base before Drew G brought them home. Drew G also scored, along with Eli J, to give the Comets a 6-run lead.
In the 4th, Sheffield scored 4 runs off some big hits to deep centre, but solid defence in both the 3rd and 4th innings, included Mason B snagging a line drive at shortstop, and Logan G and Cayde B catching line drives in the infield would help contribute to holding Sheffield at bay. The Comets would respond in the bottom half of the 4th, with Logan G and Cayde B scoring runs to give the Comets the 17-13 win, their first victory of the season.
