The AIHL advises that the Perth Thunder have been deducted three (3) competition points, as a result of a Breach of the Competition Rules in a game played against the Newcastle Northstars on 5th April 2025.
The Thunder subsequently elected to appeal this Breach before an independent Appeals Board, which was unfortunately severely delayed due to member availability.
As a result of the hearing, the Appeals Board have determined:
- Perth Thunder have been deducted three (3) competition points from their 2025 season total
- The Newcastle Northstars will not be awarded the three (3) points for the game, as it was determined (a) there was a miscommunication from the league regarding the breach and (b) Thunder acted swiftly and professionally to address the breach when they were notified
- Individual player statistics accrued from the game will remain valid
This finding was initially announced by the league on 3rd August 2025. However, this notification was quickly withdrawn after it was correctly identified that the Thunder had not been given an opportunity to clarify the findings of the Appeals Board. The league has apologised to the Thunder for this error.
Thunder will now have 40 competition points, prior to this weekend's games against Adelaide on the 16th August 2025.
The AIHL now considers this matter closed and we thank the Perth Thunder for their patience and co-operation.
