Week Three Recap

Week Three Recap

The CHL

Stony Plain rolled into Innisfail looking to avenge their 4-2 home loss the week prior. While Innisfail was looking to gain a lead in the season series in front of their home crowd. A touching ceremony was planned and executed to perfection as Innisfail held their Remembrance Day game, honoring veterans across various generations.

Stony Plain would open up the scoring four minutes into the game with Ryan Denton scoring his first Chinook Hockey League Goal. That lead wouldn't last long as Innisfail would respond on the power play with a goal from Dan Vandermeer 3 minutes later. Vandermeer would be very active this period as he would score his second of the game and period with just over a minute to play. This was also a powerplay marker that would give the host side a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

Period two we would see moments where each team would control chunks of the frame, with 6 goals being scored between both teams. Scoring would start immediately with a goal from Brandon Rude. A seeing eye shot that found its way through traffic and into the back of the net. This would make it 3-1 Innisfail less then a minute into the second period. Ty clay would score a beauty of a goal off the rush, placing a perfect shot over the goalies pad and in. Stony plain would reply within two minutes on the powerplay as Brad Bourke would tuck in a nice cross crease feed from Kruise Reddick and Blake Grainger. This would cut the lead to 4-2 for Innisfail. The Innisfail defense would suffer a small breakdown and would pay for it a minute later as Brendan Willey would snap one past the Innisfail Netminder. Within a three minute span we would see three goals by both teams. Closing out the period Innisfail would score two power play goals, the first a beautiful tip in by Braiden Leth with the second being scored by Mike Marianchuk. The period would end 6-3 in favor of the host squad

Denton and Willey would each score their second of the game for Stony Plain, cutting the Innisfail lead to 6-4 just over half way into the final period. Period three opened up with teams trading chances and the physicality intensifying. Stony Plain would come close to tying the game with James Carson ripping a hard shot off of the far post. Pierre-Luc Mercier would eventually seal the deal for the hosts with a shot that would ring bar down. Innisfail would add an empty net after some intense pressure by Stony Plain to make the game 8-5.

Innisfail would take game three by a score of 8-5. Innisfail would go a perfect 4/4 on the power play, with Stony Plain going 1/3 on the powerplay. Colton Iwaschuk would take the loss stopping 36/43 shots faced. Chance Griffith would pick up his first Chinook Hockey League win turning away 40/45 shots faced.

Next up is game four back in Stony Plain on November 11th. Puck drop will be 7:45pm.
