Chinook Hockey League Playoffs

Chinook Hockey League Playoffs

The CHL

This past weekend we were entertained by some great hockey. Game 2 and game 3 of our best of 5 championship and provincial series was one for the ages. Let’s dive in:

Game 2

Game 2 of the series took us north on the QE2 where Stony Plain Hosted Innisfail. Innisfail was looking for a strangle on the series while stony plain was looking to take home ice right back from Innisfail the weekend prior.

Innisfail got off to an early 3-0 lead and would hold on for the first period. Innisfail would carry the okay most of the period. Desbiens, Faryna, and Lipton would score for Innisfail.

Period two we saw stony plain come on strong and pushback. Blake Grainger would get his first CHL goal in their period, cutting Innisfaila lead to 3-1. Ty Rimmer was given the start in this one and made some huge timely saves to keep his team down by two.

Period three we would see Stony open the scoring by an odd angle shot by RJ Reed, also another player scoring his first CHL goal. This would cut the deficit even more now 3-2 for Innisfail. This period was a chippy one as both teams were looking to gain an edge over eachother. Each goaltender would stand tall, with Innisfail getting the last laugh, scoring two empty net goals to steal a 5-2 win. Taking a 2-0 series lead back home.

Game 3

We saw lots of scoring in this game with teams combining for 11 goals. Period one Inniafail got off to another early lead with goals by Jones (1) and Lees (2). Dempsey would respond for Stony Plain. 3-1 after 20 minutes for Innisfail.

Period two the goals would keep on coming as Innisfail would pot another two with Stony responding with one. Haas, and Hayes for Inniafail with Barry responding for Stony Plain. It would be described as a back and forth period as teams would have answer for eachother on most situations and goals.

Period three Gallimore would open the scoring for Stony, making it a 5-3 game. Innisfail would respond with 3 goals of their own with Lees and Jones(2) completing the hat trick. Jordan Cooke would stand tall all night long for Stony Plain with the Devon Baron, Stony Affiliated player, putting up his second great performance of the series despite the score line. Innisfail would win 8-3, taking the series 3-0.
