Innisfail alumni game raises $40,000 for Haarstad family

The CHL is very proud to announce that the Innisfail Eagles, and their alumni association have raised $40,000 for the Haarstad family. This past summer the CHL and Innisfail Eagles were very sad to find out that former player Tyler Haarstad passed away unexpectedly. Tyler was just 39 years old, and spent 14 seasons in the CHL, splitting time between the Bentley Generals (8) and Innisfail Eagles (6). Tyler was able to capture two Allan Cup titles in 2009 and 2013 with Bentley. He is survived by his three children Presley, Lennon, and Jagger. His brother Cody, niece Myla, and grandmother Myrna Vig. 

 All proceeds earned from the event will be donated to the family with a special RESP fund being setup on behalf of the Eagles organization for the children. The CHL would also like to extend a thank you to Stony Plain owners Dan and Lindsey Leckelt for their generous donation of $17,000 to the fund, along with the many sponsor and donors who contributed.

Team Joe Vandermeer won the alumni game by a final of 6-5 over team Pete Vandermeer. A moving ceremony was held before the alumni game with each of Tyler’s children receiving a custom #17 Haarstad jersey, along with his old stick, and skates. A moment of silence was held before the puck drop. Following the alumni game the Innisfail Eagles played host to the Stony Plain Eagles. Innisfail would go on to win the game 4-0 in front of a record crowd of 500 that stayed long after the alumni game celebrating Tyler long into the night.
