The Matariki Series
Matariki is the Maori New Year, celebrated in New Zealand during the rising of the Matariki star cluster, also known as the Pleiades. It marks a time of reflection, remembrance, and renewal, as well as a celebration of the natural world and the cycles of life. Traditionally, it was a period to honor ancestors, give thanks for the harvest, and look forward to the year ahead. In recent years, Matariki has gained recognition as a public holiday, embracing both its cultural significance and its role in bringing communities together.

This vibrant event is played in New Plymouth. It is a celebration of sportsmanship, culture, and unity, bringing together players and fans from across the country. In 2025, the 10th anniversary of the NZ Maori team will be celebrated at Matariki.
