Ice Hockey Victoria Life Members

Ice Hockey Victoria's on going success is due to the strong foundations we have due to the significant volunteer participation & dedication. We are honoured to recognise those that have contributed significant to our sport and community.

From the Constitution 3.1.8 Associate Members of the Association include; 

Life Member: any individual person of good repute, being considered by a three-fourths majority of the Committee, to have rendered special services to the Association shall be eligible for Life Membership of the Association. 

From the IHV By-Laws; 5 AGM vi.; 

Honorary Life Membership: upon the receipt of a nomination and given due consideration by the IHV Executive for the possible recommendation by the IHV Executive to those assembled for the AGM; a Member of the Association may be elected as an Honorary Life Member at the Annual General Meeting with a minimum 75% majority by those eligible to vote at the AGM. 

Nomination Criteria: A minimum of 10 years’ service is considered appropriate. Outstanding Service in two or more of the following: not in any specific order,
a. Leadership
b. Administration
c. Coaching
d. Junior recruitment and development
e. Officiating
f. Marketing of the sport
g. Games played

The parties who have nominated these people will be afforded a short opportunity to speak, before the vote, on the merits of their nominee.

Biographies of Ice Hockey Victoria Life Members

Geoff Henke AO - Awarded 2019
Geoff was a member of the Australian Olympic Team in 1960.
Geoff played from 1948 to 1965 predominately for the Raider, and also the Golden Bears.
Geoff was a driving force of the O'Brien Icehouse development, and rink Number 1 is named in his honour.
 
Glenn Grandy - Awarded 2019
Glenn began playing hockey in 1977 for the Blackhawks in the Victorian League.
In 1990 Glenn debuted with the National Senior Team in the C-Pool Worlds in Wales, and he represented Australia in five worlds over 7 years.
Glenn played for the Blackhawks from 1984 to 2022, playing 670 games - he is the Blackhawks game record holder.
Glenn has been the President of the Blackhawks since 2009, and was the IHV Senior Vice President in 2015.
 
Rick Skrzelinski - Awarded 2018
Rick is the IHV Game Record Holder, with 767 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1978 - 2018, predominately with the Demons, and also the Tigers & Pirates. 
Rick was the President of the Demons in 2012-13, Rick was the IHV Senior Vice President from 2013-14.
 
Frank Gladwell - Awarded 2018
Frank had 176 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1948 - 1965, with the Monarchs.
Frank was the IHV Referee-In-Chief & IHA Referee-In-Chief, and refereed from 1964 to 1986 where he refereed an estimated 2,000 games.
 
Paul Rice - Awarded 2017
Paul had 700 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1977 - 2021, with the Demons - and he is the Demons game record holder
Paul was recognised in 2013 for his invaluable assistance to the IHV Executive and awarded the IHV Otto Wolf Award.
Paul was the IHV Secretary in 2018.
 
Andrew McDowell - Awarded 2017
Andrew had 116 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1980 - 2009, with the Blackhawks.
Andrew was the IHV Senior Vice President from 2005-2007 & the President from 2008-2012.

Shirley Geraghty - Awarded 2017
Shirley has been a stoic supporter of the sport, providing years of expertise to the IHV Scorer role, and the Scorer Coordinator role.
Shirley was recognised in 2012 for her invaluable assistance to the IHV Executive and awarded the IHV Otto Wolf Award.
 
Graham Argue - Awarded 2015
Graham has 125 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1948 - 1962, predominately with the Pirates, and also the Demons & Blackhawks.
Graham was the owner of the Olympic Ice Skating Centre in Oakleigh, Victoria. 
 
Gary Croft - Awarded 2015
Gary has 619 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1969 - 2006, predominately with the Blackhawks, and also the Rangers, Braves & Marauders.
 
Doug Dow - Awarded 2015
Doug had 242 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1986 - 2018, with the Demons.
Doug was the IHV Junior Vice President from 2008-2009 & was awarded the IHV Otto Wolf Award in 2010.

Peter Donegan - Awarded 2014
Peter had 84 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1960 - 1971, with the Demons.
Peter was the IHV Treasurer from 1990-1991 & was awarded the IHV Otto Wolf Award in 2018.
Peter is a long time IHV Scorer & Announcer and is the Secretary of the IHV Patrons Committee who are the driving force in the IHV trophy restorations.

Paul Watson – Awarded 2009
Paul had 243 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1969 - 2009, predominately with the Demons, and also the Monarchs, Lions, Hakoah, Russell Athletic, Marauders & Braves.
Paul coached at the club level for the Demons, and the the Melbourne Ice from 2004-2012 - coaching them to win the 3-peat in 2010, 2011 & 2012.
Paul played in the Goodall Cup in 1977, 1978 & 1979 - coming away with the win in the two latter years.

Noel McLoughlin – Awarded 2000
Noel was a member of the Australian Olympic Team in 1960, as the goalkeeper.
Noel with the first player to win the IHV Presidents Medal twice, in 1959 & then in 1961.
Noel had 223 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1946 - 1964, predominately with the Demons, and also the Northern Suburbs & Red Arrows. 

Ben Acton – Awarded 2000
Ben was the Captain of the Australian Olympic Team in 1960.
Ben had 121 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1947 - 1960, predominately with the Monarchs, and also the Wildcats. 
 
Ron Amess – Awarded 2000
Ron was a member of the Australian Olympic Team in 1960.
Ron had 163 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1946 to 1965 predominately for Hakoah, and also the Blackhawks, Wildcats & Arkana.
 
Ken Wellman – Awarded 2000
Ken was a member of the Australian Olympic Team in 1960.
Ken had 391 career games at Ice Hockey Victoria from 1948 to 1977 predominately for the Blackhawks, and also the Monarchs & Tigers.
Ken was the Ice Hockey Victoria Senior Vice President in 1970 & the Junior Vice President in 1972.

Charlie Grandy - Awarded 1998
Charlie played from 1964 - 1966 & again from 1971 - 1981 for the Blackhawks.
Charlie contributed to IHV as the IHV Junior Vice President in 1978 & the IHV President from 1979 - 1981 & again in 1988 - 1994.
Charlie was recognised as a Life Member of Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) in 2000.

Kurt De Fris – Awarded 1979
Kurt was a contributed to IHV as the IHV Junior Vice President in 1956, then the Senior Vice President from 1957 - 1960, then as the President from 1963 - 1978.
The Ice Hockey Australia Under 13 National Championship is named after Kurt De Fris.

Russell Jones – Awarded 1966
Russell was a member of the Australian Olympic Team in 1960.
Russell played from 1946 to 1964 predominately for the Demons, and also the Eastern Suburbs & Glaciarium Raiders.
Russell coached at the Demons for 14 years over the period from 1948 - 1965, with 59 wins, 93 loses & 15 draws.

Sydney Hoirt – Awarded 1953
Sydney was the IHV President from 1946-1952. Sydney was contributed to the Referee`s Panel, Player Permit Committee, Tribunal Member & was a Time Keeper.
Sydney was the Goodall Cup Team Manager in 1948 {plus others to be updated}
