Free Slow-pitch Softball Course
Dear GSL Members, Unfortunately, I only just discovered the website below: a free slow-pitch softball course given by the European Softball Federation. Too late to register for this year, but it is definitely something to keep in mind for next year. Charlie Dear European Softballers, The ESF will be holding its first-ever European Slowpitch Softball Clinic from Friday evening, June 30 through Sunday, July 2 in Zagreb, hosted by the Croatian Softball Federation. The clinic will be aimed at players, coaches and umpires interested in learning more about Slowpitch rules, techniques and tactics, and how the game differs from Fastpitch. One aim of the clinic is to help European countries to build domestic Slowpitch leagues and attract more players to the sport. But another aim will be to help countries prepare for European Slowpitch Championship and Cup competition, either now or in the future. So the clinic will look at Slowpitch both from a recreational and a competitive point of view. Topics to be covered will include: --Slowpitch rules (where they differ from Fastpitch). --Slowpitch umpiring -- particularly calling balls and strikes. --Slowpitch pitching techniques and strategy. --Slowpitch hitting techniques. --Offensive strategy in Slowpitch. --Defensive strategy in Slowpitch. --Ideas for developing Slowpitch for recreational and competitive players. The course will begin with an introductory classroom session on Friday evening, June 30, and will continue with classroom and field sessions on Saturday and Sunday, ending by mid-afternoon on Sunday. More details about hotel options, transport etc will be available shortly. The course will be offered free of charge. If anyone from your Federation is interested in attending the course, please ask them to contact ESF Development Director Pavel Prachar on pprachar@sendme.cz for an application form, and copy your e-mail to me. And please contact me if you have questions about the course or would like moreinformation. We would be very grateful if you can forward this e-mail to teams and individuals in your Federation that might be interested. Regards, Bob Fromer Member, ESF Development Commission See website: http://www.baseball-softball.de/dbv/index.php? id=00000922&article=00005341&SXL_Session=d96246d54d0131fa3c7afdb8d20ead20

Leftie Glove Missing
The Quarks-Leptons spare leftie glove (goes on right hand) has gone missing. It has "QUARKS / CERN" written on it. Can the finder return it for the Bernie Tourney? Thanks, Robert Smith e-mail: smith50@un.org

GSL Game Schedule
Dear All, This Sunday 23.07.2006 there are no slow-pitch games at Childer's field. On the other hand, the DieHards fast-pitch team will be playing in Verona, Italy. This tournament includes a Salsa course, which should proof interesting to some of us. Also good luck to Jackie (Rowdies) who will be playing women's slow-pitch in the USA. On the 29-30.07.2006, we can all enjoy an entire weekend of softball at the Bernie Tourney in Geneva organised by the Quarks and the Leptons. More information on the tournament will appear soon. By the way, if someone has a spare right handed glove for a left handed player of the Dragons team then please let me know (gsl. charlie@bluewin.ch). On the Saturday evening, the softball will be followed by musical tunes from the Hardronic festival at CERN. Don't miss out! Finally in August, no official slow-pitch games are scheduled. However, there will be a pick up game every Sunday at 1 pm. The Marines will continue to sell drinks and hot dogs during this time. So bring your family and friends for a fun game of softball. Before or after the slow-pitch pick up game, the field will also be available for fast-pitch practices in preparation for the tournament in Slovakia. Enjoy the softball! Charlie
