THE DIEHARDS/DRAGONS NEWS CHRONICLE Vessy Edition
- Submitted by

September 11, 2006

Well.. a fun and sun day had at the ballpark in Vessy. Of course, it being
on the home field with only 3 teams, the Chronicle will be quite short.. no
rumors to report, no room 7 writeup, no logistics problems.. except for
bicycle accidents and I?m not sure if Steve found his way home.

On the ball front it was great to have nearly all the Dragons out as well as
a good bunch of DieHards to give everybody some real game experience. It?s
the only way to get better. We saw some innovative base running by Johanny
(safe) and Romain (out). We saw some clutch hitting by Enaam who drove in
the winning run against Grenoble (9-8). We saw batters really giving the
pitcher a hard time by refusing to miss a ball.. Ines for example got 3
at-bats worth of pitches in one at-bat. We saw some good defensive plays
made by Dany, Charlie, Romain, Laure and Caroline D to mention a few. But I
did notice, as did Coach Peter, that we still tend to forget that after
completing one play, there just might be another one to make.. like another
base runner could be taking another base.

After putting a couple of balls into low-earth orbit against Grenoble,
Johanny decided it was better to just hit doubles if he did not want to get
walked all the time. We must remember that when we go to other tournaments.

So in the end, the Dragons were the champs, (DieHards 2 (so what's new),
Grenoble 3). Both games they won were close ones. 9-7 against DieHards and
9-8 against Grenoble. In the first game the DH once again showed that we are
not a morning team. By the 3rd inning we were OK but by then it was too
late. Grenoble then suffered in the afternoon game as a result.

And on a final note..
The majority of folks have indicated that October 28 will be the date of the
BBQ, Keg year end party. Only yesterday, I learned that there might be a
Dragons gala that nite. Any chance to change that date? So, if you are a
Dragon and have already confirmed the 28th as OK for the BBQ, and you want
to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible.

See you all soon.
