THE WAVE KEEPS ROLLING - VANCOUVER WINS PACIFIC DIVISION
- Submitted by
Vancouver, BC

The Vancouver Wave clinched first place in the Pacific Division of the National Junior Championship on July 3, beating the Fraser Valley Venom 24-20 at UBC Wolfson Fields in Vancouver.

With the Wave Head Coach, Pat Fleck at the 2010 National Women's League Finals in Toronto as the BC Asst. Coach and Wave Asst. Coach Dave Johnston out of the country, the Wave retained the BC U20 title in a very close game against the Valley with Spence McTavish stepping in as their Coach on the day.

Although scoring four tries on the day, one more than their opponents, Fraser Valley missed all conversion attempts, which proved to be the difference.  Vancouver's Bryan Tyrer was brilliant kicking, hitting three conversions and a single penalty kick.

Canada U20 player Admir Cejvanovic was again an impact player for the Wave, crossing for a try.  Drew Langer and Connor Fuller scored the other two Wave tries.

Fraser Valley's tries came from prop Jamie Kelly, centre Spencer Thorpe (2) and fullback Clay Ross.

The Valley picked up two bonus points in the narrow defeat, but it was a win they needed to secure the trip to the West Final.  Fraser Valley lost by four points in Saturday's contest and only two in their first game against Vancouver this season, proving how close these lower mainland rivals are.

Vancouver advances to the West Final on July 17 in the Prairies.  The West Final will be hosted by the winner of the Prairie Division - which is to be determined this weekend, July 9-11, in Regina.
