VANCOUVER CONTINUE WINNING WAYS OVER THE ISLAND

The Vancouver Wave regained first place in the Pacific Division standings of the National Junior Championship this past Saturday, June 26 with a 53-10 win over the Rising Tide of Vancouver Island.

In their final match of the 2010 regular season, Vancouver Island were hosts to the 2009 National Champions, who are continuing their winning ways this season.  On a typically beautiful day in Victoria at St. Michael's University School, the Wave came out strong opening the scoring after just 90 seconds.

The momentum continued for the full 80 minutes, with the experience of the Wave taking charge.  Canada Under-20 players Admir Cejvanovic and Adam Zaruba had important roles, each going over for tries in the second half.

With a young group on the pitch, the Rising Tide dealt with the pressure responding with two deserved tries of their own.

The loss puts the Rising Tide out of contention for a spot in the Western Final.  Despite their record, the Tide program is rich with potential as the local rugby system is expanding at this age level on the Island.

The battle for top spot continues another week.  The Wave hold first place after three games, but the Fraser Valley Venom have proved they are a team to watch.

Fraser Valley opened their campaign strong, after a 39-3 win against the Island, and a narrow defeat to Vancouver, 28-26.  In that close loss to the Wave, Fraser Valley picked up two important bonus points narrowing the gap in standings for the final fixture in the Pacific Division.

The winner of the Pacific Division will advance to the Western Final, to be played at the Prairie Division winner on Saturday, July 17.  The Western Final venue will be determined on July 11 at the conclusion of the Prairie Division round-robin tournament in Regina.
