Round Two of Playoffs

Moira Bryan

The Wolves swept the Sherwood Park Steele in two games to win the North and advance to the championship finals!

On Sunday, February 25th, the Wolves hosted the Steele at Castledowns for the first game in the best of three for the North finals. The Wolves opened the scoring halfway through the first period when #4 Rory Bothwell scored on the power play. Five minutes later, another goal from the Wolves came from #16 Carolyne Lavoie to increase the Wolves lead to two. Bothwell opened the scoring again in the second period when she put it past the Steele netminder just three minutes into the frame. Later in the period, #19 Natalie Buttle scored a goal of her own. Lavoie potted her second of the game less than midway through the third period. #29 Havana Batke stopped all 19 shots she faced for a shutout, and to give the Wolves a 5-0 win in Game 1!

#19 Natalie Buttle

The Wolves headed out to Ardrossan next weekend to face off against the Steele on Saturday, March 2nd, in their home arena. The Steele would not be held off of the score sheet this time and were the first to get a goal, less than four minutes into the game. The Wolves tried to answer back, but late in the first the Steele potted another. The Wolves finally got on the board in the second when #22 Brenna Reid scored six minutes into the period. In the third, Lavoie tied the game just two minutes into the final frame. Later in the period, Buttle added another for the Wolves. Both teams battled hard to the end but the Wolves kept the pressure on and would not let the Steele pull their goalie. #31 Paige Thomas made 13 saves in the 3-2 win, and the Wolves advanced to the championship!

#16 Carolyne Lavoie

The championship will take place over the next three weekends in a best of five series against the Cochrane Chaos. The first two games will take place this weekend in Edmonton, both at Castledowns on Saturday at 6:15 and Sunday at 5:45. We'll head to Cochrane next weekend for Games 3 and 4, and then Game 5 will be the following weekend back in Edmonton, if necessary. We hope to see you there!
