Glengarry News Cup
Game 3 – THE CHANGE IN TIDE
- Submitted by
Word is getting out – the Glengarry News Cup hockey is entertaining, good old fashion hockey, so for all those who haven’t had their fill of hockey and seeing as it’s a bit early to get the clubs out, it’s a good fix. With the Alexandria Glens taking a 3 goal lead in the second, the South Glengarry Legends had to play hard and focus in the third to eke out the tie.     The young Glens took the lead early in the first period on a power play goal by Adam Simpson at the 14:32 mark, but it was less than 5 minutes later that the Legends got on board with a goal by Chris Corput. The Legends had 4 penalties during the first and it appeared the speed of the younger Glens may have been a factor. During the second period the Glens went ahead on goals less than a minute apart by Adam Simpson at 14:18, and Brad Massia at 13:22. Penalties plagued the Legends again seeing them take another 4 to just a single by the Glens, and the Shane Bougie goal at 8:57 seemed like their fate might be sealed at that point. Third period action was more intense right from the drop of the puck and it wasn’t long before the Legends Yvon Besner potted their second goal at the 18:33 mark on a screen shot. Although both sides had trouble staying out of the penalty box with 4 apiece in the third, it was the Legends that capitalized on their chances scoring powerplay goals at 14:01 by Jason Kilger and then again for the tying goal by Roddy McKenzie at 12:20. The turning point in the game appeared to be the big hit by Jason Kilger just prior to him going the length of the ice to walk in on the Glens goaltender for the Legends 3rd goal. The Glens were challenged with a short bench having only 13 skaters which was likely a factor in spite of their youth.   The Glens play the Maxville Highland Travellers  4pm today at the Glengarry Sports Palace, for their third game in three days. The Highlanders will be looking to get some points here, having lost their first game to the Legends in game 1 last Thursday.     .
