CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE- Dion Pollard
Well another winter season is fast approaching, and that can only mean one thing: HOCKEY! For officials it is time to start thinking about the clinic season and preparing for another winter of giving to the game that we all love and work to make better each winter. I would like to start by encouraging all of last year’s officials to attend a clinic this year and continue to officiate. We all realize the task at hand is never easy and seldom appreciated but at the end of the day all we can ask is that everyone do the best job they can and enjoy what they are doing. As well, if you plan on attending encourage a friend to come and at least try it out. There are many benefits to refereeing: exercise, socialization with fellow peers, experience, educating yourself about hockey and of course at the end of the day the money isn’t bad either.
The following newsletter is simple and will give you the new 2012-2013 executive as well as a list of clinic dates throughout the Northeast Zone that you may attend. Any new official plus everyone under the age of 16 must attend a two-day clinic. If you have officiated in the past but took a year off you may attend the one-day clinic but you must have chairman’s approval to do so. Please contact me before attending a clinic so the instructor is aware that you will be attending.
The website is operational after an extensive process was undertaken. Ethan Cronkhite has put considerable work into the site and will be the main source of communication for the officials. Please take time to visit www.nezrc.ca to check out what it has to offer. Great job Ethan.
Thanks to our clinic coordinator Scott Walker who has done a tremendous amount of work getting the clinics prepared for the upcoming season. Your instructors this year will be Ethan Cronkhite, Scott Walker, Troy Winterhalt, Wayne Jeffrey, Clayton Brown, Mark Woytkiw, Brian Wareham, Rob Anderson and myself. Each individual commits a minimum of 3 weekends each winter to ensure all clinics are covered so thanks to each one for making that commitment. This year all of Alberta is in year #3 of the online registration system that should improve over last year as some changes have been made to make the system more user friendly. See below for how to register for your local clinic.

Clinics
Clinics in 2012 will run similar to 2011 with some improvements being made to content. The online E-Learning modules continue to be a work in progress with Hockey Canada and are slated for completion in 2013. For this year focus on registering properly for the clinic you attend.
