Match Penalty Selection:

This section deals with the proper guidelines and procedures regarding both calling and reporting a match penalty on an official.  THIS IS THE MOST SEVERE PENALTY IN THE RULE BOOK. This section will help and guide you through what can be a very complicated process.

Brian Wareham is the match penalty coordinator and he will guide you through the process.  He is there to help and support you. However in order for him to give to you the best support you need to ensure you follow the proper guidelines and procedures that are listed in this section. Match Penalty Procedure:

1. Keep the Game Sheet and Write Up Sheet.

2. Ensure that you have the following information:

                        -Correct NUMBER of the player or NAME of the coach - if you do not know, ask. Be sure you know BEFORE you leave the arena.

                        -Make sure the proper number and offense are clearly printed (legibly) on the Game Sheet.

                        -Ensure that the Game Sheet has been properly completed.

                        -Complete the Hockey Alberta Match On Official report. Ensure the following information is properly included:

 -Player's Name
-Player's or Team Official's Team
-Time and Period Assessed

-Full Description - include all possible factors that led to the incident (state facts, NOT opinions).
-Detail the degree of violence in the infraction, the extent of the injury to yourself, if any, and also what happened after the incident - did the player leave without taking further action?
-After you are satisfied all details of the incident have been reported, make sure your name and referee's phone number appear legibly on the report.

                        -PHONE Brian Wareham (780) 813-0671 (cell) WITHIN 12 HOURS OF THE INCIDENT. Be prepared to supply the following information:

                                        -  Your name.

                                         - Phone number.

                                          -Names and phone numbers of fellow officials.

                                          -The time, location and league of the game.

                                         -The teams involved.

                                          -Player's or team official's name and team.

                                          -Rule number incident applies to.

                                           

3. Brian will then follow up with you to advise what we will do or how we will proceed from here.
 

Match Penalty Guidelines:

Listed below is the rules governed by Hockey Canada for Match On Official. These rules can be found in you Hockey Canada Rule/Case Book. 

Rule 9.6 (A) Any player or team official who threatens or attempts to strike a Referee, Linesman or any Off-ice official before, during or after a game shall be assessed a match penalty and shall be reported to the President by the referee.

Rule 9.6 (B) Any player or team official who intentionally touches, holds, or pushes a Referee, Linesman or any Off-ice official before, during or after a game shall be assessed a match penalty and shall be reported to the President by the referee.

Rule 9.6 (C) Any player or team official who deliberately strikes, trips or body checks a Referee, Linesman or any Off-ice official before, during or after a game shall be assessed a match penalty and shall be reported to the President by the referee.  Such player or team official may be suspended for one year or more.
