It has come to the leagues attention that although the 2013 season has been cancelled, some representative team members/coaches have expressed their concerns as it pertains to their desire to continue on as a representative team under the banner of (Brampton Radicals / Brampton Inline Hockey) for the 2013 season. The league considered the request; however it was determined with counsel from several sources that it was not in the best interest for the league on several levels. Therefore there will be no affiliated Brampton Radicals rep. teams nor will there be any authorized use of the “Brampton Radicals” or “Brampton Inline Hockey” jerseys or team names until further notice.

Although Brampton Inline Hockey has supported and operated “Brampton Radicals” representative program for many years, the leagues primary interest has been and will remain promoting grass roots inline hockey development within a recreational house league program. Any rep. players wishing to continue playing during the 2013 season are encouraged to seek out teams within other neighboring organizations that offer inline at a competitive level. Further to that anyone who wishes to rent a city facility for inline purpose may do so by contacting the city of Brampton sports rental group.

It is the belief of BIHI and that of the OMRHA, what makes for a strong and vibrant inline organization, is to have in place a solid grass roots league program. With that it is has always been the goal of BIHI to field representative teams at a competitive level to showcase our elite players that have come through our grass roots programs. Over the years Brampton Radicals have fielded dominant teams with many regional, provincial, national and cross border championships all of which the league has proudly supported.

I would be remiss not to point out that over the years there has been a drastic decline of rep. teams from other centers competing within tournaments. So much so both OMRHA and NIHA cancelled both the Provincial and National championship tournaments some years ago. Yes it is unfortunate for BIHI to have cancelled the 2013 season which affected over 200 recreational league members and yes it is unfortunate that a casualty of that are no rep. teams for 2013 season.

As we now find ourselves with the reality of no 2013 season, it is extremely unfortunate and disturbing that some members have decided to channel their displeasure with pointing fingers at the league for its demise and not supporting rep. teams moving forward. Nothing could be further from the truth as the league has always been there to support the rep. program.
With that said I would remind players, members and coaches alike, that the decision to cancel the season was extremely difficult and one that was made with consultation on several levels and not hastily done. Several attempts were made and the league reached out on numerous occasions to the membership to recruit new volunteers to comprise a new executive board to continue league operation. Ultimately the membership was aware of the leagues position and without any commitment from its members; the league finds itself where it is today.

I would again at this time like to express my sincere gratitude to the many volunteer coaches we have had over the years and also the many executive members who have served upwards of 10 + years on the board and countless hours to ensure the league sustain itself year after year for the pleasure and benefit of all members alike.
