- Submitted by
The summer hockey season is underway at Sportime Bethpage! The first two weeks have seen the Badgers come back strong in the North Division, Sniper District face-off with the Garbage Cans in a rematch of the Spring Central Division Finals and PB minus J and EZ2-4U jump out to impressive starts.

“B” North Division:

The Badgers came up just one win short of a division title during the spring, and appear to have come back more motivated than ever this summer. They have won their first two contests this summer, led by Joe Jacaruso and Nick Monforte, who have combined for 13 points this season. Ronald Kohler has also been strong in net so far for the Badgers, stopping 34 of the 36 shots he’s faced.

The Bingers are 1-1 this season, and feature the North’s leading scorer in Richie Schwartz. Schwartz has compiled six goals and four assists so far this summer. Ken Anderson and Bryan Gorman are also off to great starts for the Bingers, each registering four points in their first two games. Kevin Hennessy has been as standout for the Starlighters in the opening few weeks, scoring five times.

“C” Central Division:

Last season, the Garbage Cans defeated Sniper District in the Division Finals, to take the Central championship. This past week, Sniper District was able to exact some revenge on the Garbage Cans, defeating them 3-1 in their season opener. Joe Mucci led the way for the District with two goals and an assist, while goaltender Jon Krolick made 15 stops in net.

Also having some early season success has been the Puckheadz, who are 2-0 on the summer. Mike Loccisano is the team’s leading scorer, with three goals and two assists this season. Dean Raio also has made a big impact, already registering a hat trick. The Rabid Squirrels are 1-1 this summer, and feature the Central’s top points getter. Clayton Murphy has five goals and an assist for the Squirrels.

“C” East Division:

PB minus J has looked sharp early on this season, posting a win in their first two games, including a victory over defending East champion CTP. Pat Cappetti, Mike McGovern and Tom Carriero each have registered three points this season for PB minus J, and goaltender George Simpson has gotten the job done in net for the club.

The Renegades are 1-1 this season, and have benefited from the strong offensive play of Tyler Mannino and Ryan Breck. The two players are currently #1 and 2 in scoring in the East Division, and have combined for nine points this summer. CTP’s Rob Mentz is also among the division’s points leaders, with three on the season.

“C” West Division:

During the spring, the Fat, Skinny, Medium Guys were the champions of the wild, wild West division. This summer there will be some new blood competing for the West Division title, including a team called Young Blood. In their inaugural season, Young Blood has gotten off to a 1-1 start. After dropping their opener, they rebounded with a 4-2 victory over Bombsquad.

The most impressive West team so far this summer has been EZ2-4U. They club is off to a 2-0 start, led by goaltender Tom Lepage and leading scorer Mike McGovern’s play. In their most recent game, they posted an impressive 2-0 shutout win over Blue Ocean.

Thanks for joining us this summer season. Lots of exciting hockey action ahead!
