Certification Courses for Volunteers and Team Officials

The Association offers many opportunities for individuals interested in taking on an active role on a team. Some courses and clinics are mandatory and will be offered at the beginning of the season. The Association covers the cost for all courses taken by individuals that are registered as team officials for their team.

Anyone holding an official position will also be required to complete a criminal record check. These are standard amongst amateur sports associations and are conducted for the well-being of the children.

For those who are volunteering as Coaches, Assistants, Safety Persons and Managers, please ensure you are prepared. Failure to have the proper certification by the end of December of the current season will result in your removal from your position as a team official.

1. Criminal Record Check - download the 3 page document "Criminal Record Check" below and follow the directions. This must be done by October 1st (crim checks are good for 2 years). Complete Criminal Record Checks should be placed in a sealed envelope to the attention of the RMMHA Risk Manager, and then given to your Divisional Manager. All team officials, including coaches, assistant coaches, managers and team safety people must have their Criminal Record Checks completed as well as Speak Out! or Respect in Sport certification.

Download the forms to complete your Criminal Record Check.

 2. Respect in Sport- Respect in Sport (RIS) replaces the SpeakOut! certification and is an on-line training course designed as a tool to assist leaders in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment, and bullying in sport. Previous SpeakOut! certification is still valid for anyone who has completed it in the past. SpeakOut! / Respect in Sport certification is mandatory for anyone holding an official position on a team (manager, coach, assistant coach and HCSP).

3. Coaching Clinics - These are mandatory for all coaches and assistant coaches working on the ice with the players. All on-ice as well as "bench" assistants (during games) must be certified.

  • Register early to reserve your spot, as clinics are not always available, and you must be certified by December of the current season.

4. HCSP Clinic - each team requires at least one person to hold their HCSP qualification. No game may be played without a team having a certified HCSP person. Please not that the HCSP certification is only valid for 6 years and must be repeated for certification to remain current.

  • RMMHA will not be hosting (HCSP) Safety Clinics this year.
  • HCSP Clinics will be hosted in Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Abbotsford
  • Registration for HCSP Clinics must be done on the BC Hockey website. http://www.bchockey.net/Clinics/clinics.aspx

The Risk Management - Coach's Information Package contains valuable information on mandatory processes and important things to know. All team officials, parents and players will benefit from this information.
