Happenings to Start the New Year

The Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League starts 2014 with teams some very important games. At the top of the standings Winnipeg Wild have two big games to start things off with an encounter with cross city rival Winnipeg Thrashers and then head to Brandon for a match against the league leading Brandon Wheat Kings. If the Wild wish to take over top spot in the league a win in Brandon is a must.
The push for a playoff position is probably even more important as 5 teams are within 4 points of each other in the standings. All games between any of these teams are 4 point games which makes for exciting playoff type action.
The other teams are not yet out of it. With 30 points still up for grabs in the standings a run of wins could make it a very tight race. All games have been very competitive and there is always a fine line between winning and losing.
Also, early in January, the league first and second all star teams will be announced. These top twelve players will be recognized at one of their home games in January.
