2014 OBA Championships Preview
Four teams in the Thames Valley Senior Baseball League will be competing at Ontario Baseball Association playdowns on Labour Day weekend, across three different levels.

At the A OBAs, Listowel will head East of Toronto for the second year in a row to Kendal, looking to improve on their 1-2 record from last season. Joining them at the A level is a large 12 team draw, including a bids from the Wyoming Cattlebarons and Courtright Cardinals who play in the nearby Western Counties League. Niagara Falls, Merriton, and Welland will represent the Niagara District, while Orangeville and Creemore travel from York Simcoe. Woodslee is the lone team from Essex County, and filling out the bracket is Clarington and Kendal from the host Eastern Ontario Baseball Association. Listowel returns much of the same team that won B OBAs in 2012, and their league record currently sits at 12-3.

Kincardine and Oakridge will head West for the B Playdowns hosted by Port Lambton, which has two of the nicest venues in the province at Courtright and Vandamme Park. Kincardine enters B as the 2013 C Champions, as they went undefeated last season in Wyoming. They will open with a rematch of last years C final, taking on the Petrolia Raiders. Oakridge will be making it’s second OBA appearance, remaining at the B level. They had a disappointing 0-2 record last season, losing two close games and heading home early. The Reds will open with another rematch, as they take on their 2013 first round opponent the Harrow Blues. The rest of the field includes host Port Lambton, Fort Erie and Welland from Niagara District, Clearview from York Simcoe, and Amherstberg from the Essex County League. Kincardine currently has a 9-4 record in league play, while Oakridge sits at 9-5.

The Mitchell Astros will remain at the C level in 2014, heading towards Niagara Falls and Thorold. The C Championship also has a large draw, as two Thorold teams will be joined by St Catherines to represent the home association of NDBA. Essex and Lasalle head East from the ECSL, Forest and Corunna from the WCBL, and Barrie, Bolton, Midland will round out the field from the North Dufferin Senior League. Mitchell has played a tough schedule in 2014 and currently sits at 6-7 in league with a few games remaining on the schedule.

The Thames Valley Senior League has brought home OBA hardware the past two seasons, and looks to have a good shot at winning a 3rd in a row in 2014. Best of luck to all teams competing!
