St Andrews Repeats as MPHL Champs
- Submitted by
The final of the 2007-08 MPHL pitted two heated rivals, the Lancers of Gilmour Academy and the Saints of St. Andrew's College. The last meeting between these two teams was at the MacPherson Tournament Championship game and Gilmour prevailed 3-2 in overtime to spoil the Saints party. The final game got off to a great start for the Saints and they jumped out 2 - 0 lead after the opening frame. The Saints were able to jump on the Gilmour defence and not allow them to make any clean breakouts. Providing the offence for the Saints was Ben Power and Morgan Bonner. The second period was full of penalties with the Lacers losing their cool and putting the Saints on the powerplay. The Saint as well were guilty of taking some questionable penalties and they found themselves four on four near the end of the period. After an aggressive forecheck by Morgan Bonner, Andrew Wallace followed up and deked the goalie to make it a three goal advantage. St. Andrew's started the third period with a two man advantage and made no mistake getting up 4 - 0 to put the game away.  Gilmour pressed for the final fifteen minutes but couldn't break through the solid goaltending of Vinny Lessard. In the end the helmets and gloves went flying and the St. Andrew's College Saints were crowned 2007-2008 MPHL league champions!
