The Vancouver College Fighting Irish continued to find their stride this weekend, earning their second straight shutout victory in dominant fashion with a 33-0 win over the Belmont Bulldogs on a chilly, rain-soaked Saturday afternoon at O'Hagan Field.
After battling through early-season adversity, the Irish have now responded with two commanding performances that showcased their trademark toughness, discipline, and team chemistry. From the opening whistle, the Irish set the tone, winning the battle in the trenches, controlling field position, and keeping the Bulldogs' offense bottled up all afternoon.
The defence was the story once again, flying to the ball and forcing multiple turnovers while allowing very few first downs. Their energy and communication carried over from last week's performance, holding yet another opponent scoreless. Special teams also made their mark, generating key plays that helped the Irish maintain momentum and build a steady lead throughout the game.
On the other side of the ball, the offence found its rhythm, mixing power runs and well-timed passes to move the chains and capitalize on Belmont's defensive gaps. Each drive seemed to build confidence for the Irish as they continued to play complementary football, all three phases working together to execute a complete team victory.
Head Coach Bryan Chiu (VC '92) was pleased with the group's response and focus following the recent turnaround.
"We appreciate Belmont making the trip from the island for this game," Chiu said.
"They put up a good fight in the tough weather conditions. Proud of our team. Hopefully, we can build on this win and carry the
momentum leading into next week's game."
The win brings Vancouver College to 2-2 in the regular season, signalling a strong rebound after opening the year with a pair of close losses. More importantly, the Irish appear to be rediscovering their identity, one built on physicality, precision, and resilience.
Next week, the Irish hit the road under the lights for a Friday Night matchup against the WJ Moat Hawks on October 24th at 7:00 PM. It will be the first meeting between the two programs in several years (and the first during the Coach Chiu era) as Vancouver College looks to continue its climb back toward championship form.
