The Chow Cup is staying at South Kamloops Secondary for another year.
The South Kam Titans captured their second consecutive city football championship on Saturday, defeating cross-town rivals the Westsyde Whundas in convincing fashion, 42–20.
The Titan defence set the tone early, shutting down the Whundas’ offensive rhythm and limiting their scoring opportunities throughout the game.
Offensively, South Kam was firing on all cylinders. Lloyd Heggen had a standout performance with 140 total yards, two touchdowns, and an interception on defence. Mason Gozda added 91 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Zander Merrel and Derian Dyck each found the end zone as well. Dyck also teamed up with Daxson Klimach for a combined 16 tackles on defence.
Quarterback Cole Rigler was in command all game, completing 24 of 34 passes for 304 yards, throwing four touchdown passes, and adding another score on the ground. On defence, Jayden de Boer was a force, recording three quarterback sacks and four tackles.
Simply put, South Kam was a size too big for the Whundas this year.
The annual rivalry game, once known as the Wendy’s Cup, was revived last season as the Chow Cup, named in honour of longtime local coach Darryl Chow. Chow began his coaching career at Valleyview Secondary in 1974 and has dedicated 50 years to developing football in Kamloops, coaching at South Kam, Westsyde, and with both the Kamloops Cowboys and Kamloops Broncos junior programs.
South Kam won the inaugural Chow Cup in 2024 on home turf with a 34–13 victory. Next up, the Titans face a tough challenge as they travel to Vernon this Saturday to take on the powerhouse Vernon Panthers. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
