The AA game of the week between the Shas Ti Kelly Road Grizzlies and Nechako Valley Vikings was a tale of two halves. What was only a two-point halftime lead quickly turned into a blowout 52-12 win for the Vikings.
A physical Vikings run game was the difference in this one. The offensive line led by left tackle Tommy Cross wore down the Grizzlies slowly but surely.
All three Vikings running backs, Dexter Malo, Charles Cuesta, and Jacob Sarigumba, benefitted from their line's stellar play, all finding the endzone in the process.
The Grizzlies came out of the gates strong and got an early 6-0 lead. The Vikings quickly responded with a TD of their own. The teams would exchange Touchdowns again, but the Vikings would take a 14-12 lead into halftime because of converted extra points.
The Vikings came out flying in the second half and didn't land until the final whistle was blown. The run game that was slowly wearing down the Grizzly's defense completely took over the line of scrimmage and helped lead the Viking's to 38 unanswered points.
Quarterback Linden Buchanan had a very strong performance both running and throwing the ball. He connected with wideout Kole Shoesmith for the Viking's lone score through the air.
Defensively, the Vikings held the Grizzlies scoreless in the 2nd half. The defensive line got excellent penetration and caused havoc for the Grizzlies offense. The Linebackers, led by Keaden Stampflee, flowed well to the ball and made some great tackles.
Vikings head coach Sheldon Brown was pleased with his team's showing.
"Overall I'm very happy with the teams performance and it feels good to finally get in the win column this year."
The Vikings will enjoy their bye this week, heal up, and get ready for their next matchup against College Heights on October 4th.
