Greater Victoria Midget Hockey Classic: Notice Board

2019 Vic Hockey Classic Champions: VICTORIA ADMIRALS
The 2019 Greater Victoria Midget Hockey Classic concluded on Monday afternoon with an exciting final between the North Vancouver Storm and the Victoria Admirals. Congratulations go out to both clubs, who after sixty minutes of end-to-end action were deadlocked at 3 goals each.

With regulation time expired but time remaining on the wall clock, both Clubs elected to play a five minute overtime period. This led to more entertaining hockey with lots of pace and and end-to-end action. Momentum shifted after North Vancouver Storm successfully killed off the remainder of a major penalty but it was Carter Johnstone, Victoria's netminder, that was up to the task, shutting the door on the Storm.

The fans were treated to one heck of a hockey game between two highly competitive clubs and it was a shame that the outcome of the tournament had to be decided in a shootout.

With both keepers playing rock solid between the pipes, spectators knew this shootout would be tense. With only one goal at each end after five shooters it was Ryan Grambart who scored the unanswered goal, to put a dagger into the game and send the Admirals team out in jubilation.

Special congratulations go out to the winning goalie,, Carter Johnstone from the Victoria Admirals for being the recipient of this year's Matt Gow Tournament MVP Award.

A thank you goes out to all the clubs in attendance at this year's Vic Classic and to all the on and off ice officials for their hard work over the Remembrance Day weekend.

2018 Greater Victoria Midget Classic Champions - SAANICH BRAVES
The 2018 Vic Classic Finals will be a game remembered for a long time.

The Final was a match up of the Chilliwack Bruins, who went undefeated though round robin play, and a Saanich Braves teams that earned its way into the finals on the last game of the round robin. This was the second time these two clubs have met in the final. But in 2017, it was the Chilliwack Bruins that took away the hardware with a hard fought 1-0 regulation time victory.

This year the rematch went to a gritty Braves club who under the guidance of Head Coach Curtis Pereverzoff, Assistants Kyman Chan and Mike Cox battled throughout the game, pushing it to Sudden Death Overtime and eventually into an exciting Shoot-Out Victory. The fans at the Panorama Rec Centre were treated to a gem of a game with a lot of pace and end-to-end action. The teams both played extremely hard but it was Tournament MVP Jacob Haydar, netminder for the Braves, who stole the show with the "Game of the Tournament". Please check out the trophy presentation pic from our Photo Album tab on the left.

A thank you goes out to all the clubs in attendance at this year's Vic Classic and to all the on and off ice officials for their hard work over the Remembrance Day weekend.

2017 Vic Classic Champions: Chilliwack Bruins
With another memorable Vic Classic in the books the tournament committee would like to thank all the participating teams for another competitive event. We also extend our thanks to the visiting clubs from the mainland for their understanding and patience with Monday's travel challenge. While BC Ferries runs fairly consistently, most Island Clubs can tell a story or two about sailing waits at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal.

The championship game of the tournament was settled today with a 2-1 final score, which saw the Chilliwack Bruins emerge as the victors over a tough Saanich Braves squad. It was a very well played game from start to finish, with both clubs competing hard and battling for every opportunity. As expected from the furious action at both ends of the ice, it was the keepers for both teams that were recognized as the Players of the Game. Congratulations to Cam St. Pierre from Saanich Braves and Brock Machholz from Chilliwack Bruins.

The Matt Gow memorial trophy was awarded at the end of the championship game to the tournament MVP and leading scorer, Dylan Devers of the Chilliwack Bruins.

Thank you to all the players, coaches, volunteers and sponsors of the 2017 Greater Victoria Midget Hockey Classic. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!

2016 Vic Classic Finals
Tonight’s Goal Medal Game of the Greater Victoria Midget Hockey Classic between the Burnaby Winter Club Bruins and the Saanich Braves was one for the ages. A hard fought battle in every sense that was played by two very well coached teams. The game was a carryover from their match in round robin play that ended in a 4-4 tie. At the end of regulation and three entertaining periods of hockey nothing had been settled, the score was deadlock at zeros.

The game went to a sudden death overtime, where it was the Saanich Braves who finally broke the impasse and solved the stellar goalkeeping of the Bruins Naveen Kainth.

To a player, the Braves stormed the ice in celebration after scoring the game winner on a power play marker. Connor McKillop the man standing between the pipes for his Braves club and his counterpart Kainth were both recognized as their own clubs ‘Player of the Game’ for their efforts between the pipes.

Congratulations to all teams participating in the 2016 Vic Classic and in particular, to the players of the Bruins and Braves. The coaching staff also deserves some recognition for today’s first class effort, congrats to both Cleve Astle of the BWC Bruins and Ian Birnie of the victorious Saanich Braves.
