Manitoba Senior Baseball League Semi-Annual Meeting April 23, 2007

Meeting called to order at 7:00PM by President Barry Wowk with 20 members and 2 members (Jesse Carlson & Mitch Darvill) from CKX in attendance.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of Neil Andrews, coach & Mark Minor, former team member of Ora Dental Marlins.

Introduction: of members in attendance.

Minutes of the Annual Meeting of October 16, 2006: Motion: Bill Kirkup/ Alf Graham to accept as circulated. Carried.

Agenda: - approved as circulated.

Presidents Remarks:

- Congratulated all of the Teams who provided a great ball season in the League in 2006.

- Thanked the media for their great support, Bruce Luebke, CKLQ; Mike from the Journal, Dave from the Brandon Sun and Don Omand from CKX. The League appreciated all of the support given.

- Thanked the Board of Directors and the Executive for a supportive year.

Correspondence:

- Its been confirmed that the Canadian AAA national Championships will be held in Brandon Aug. 21 – 24, 2008

- MBA Provincial Championship requires all Coaching Staff to complete the “Respect in Sport Course” on line by June 15/07. There is no cost. Go to “Sportmb.ca”

- There are 5 Free Agents reported during the time line.

- Report from Dauphin will be reported under Business Reports.

Treasurer’s Report: Trish Carlisle - Balance of $1,624.66 as of April 23, 2007. Motion: Woody Langford/ Lloyd Rolling. Carried.

Business Reports: 2007 Teams:

1) Dauphin Brewers. Received a late notice from Vic Fron, that they cannot form an Executive for 2007 & will be unable to be in the league.

2) Killarney Lakers – Walter Hilhorst. Asked the League for a “One-Year Absence” due to problems in getting enough players as some had gone to the Borderwest League.

Motion: Woody Langford/ Irv Powers to accept a “one-year absence” for Killarney Lakers. Carried.

3) Wawanesa Jays. Glen McGregor advised that they needed to withdraw from the League as not enough commitment to field a team.

4) Birtle Blue Jays. Woody Langford advised that they will play.

5) Ora Dental Marlins. Nate Andrews advised that will be rebuilding with some young players and will play this year.

6) Neepawa Farmers. Garth White advised that they are still rebuilding and will play.

7) Oak River Dodgers. Derek Shamray advised that their numbers are good for a team.

8) Reston Rockets. Ross Tycoles advised that their team is young and ready to play ball.

MBA Convener: Barry noted that Gladwyn Scott was unable to be here due to recent hip replacement. He asked if some would send a card, etc as he would be glad to hear from anyone.

Congratulations: - Lyle Wright awarded MBA Coach of the Year. - Justin Funk awarded AAA Player of the year. - Woody Langford awarded the Volunteer of the year. - Shelley Old – Volunteer. - Ed Shamray awarded Honor Society of the MBA.

Web Site & Statistics: - The final stats for 2005 will be entered to bring the web site up to date. - Mike Stackhouse was trying to get a couple of sponsors & suggested to get 2 other leagues where they would be able to do stories/ profiles if set up. It would be a one time cost of $1000.00 over and above current cost. Following discussion the membership was not interested.

Schedule & Playoffs: - A schedule had been made up for a 7 Team league and will have to be revised. For 6 teams. - League begins play May 22, 2007. - Games will all be 9 innings, even for Double Header. - Play offs will continue as last year with 1st & 2nd with byes and 3 x 6 & 4 x 5. - July 13, 2007 is final League games. - Play Offs will start July 15. - The first 2 rounds will be played prior to the nationals Aug. 8 - 14. - Finals will be after the national championship.
