Coaching
At Ice Hockey SA, we value the development of our coaches, and integration of individuals who wish to become a coach. Throughout all IHSA sanctioned leagues, each team must have an accredited coach on their bench for the game.

All IHSA Coaching Courses align with IHA, and are associated with the Australian Sports Commission. We endeavour to facilitate a Level I Coaching Course twice per year - once before the Winter season and once before the Summer season.

Coaching progressions within IHA include national coaching roles such as State Teams, IHA National Development Camps, Australian Representative Teams and opportunities to travel to coaching summits around the world.

Coaching Courses
Level I
The Level I course is an introduction to coaching all ages, including communication, reporting, planning, child safety, conduct and hockey specific modules. This course is aimed at people who wish to begin coaching and is valid for two years. If your accreditation is due to expire, please contact your club president or league coordinator for details on how to extend your qualification.

Level II
This course has a pre-requisite of holding a Level I, and actively coaching for one year. This course is aimed at our coaches who are interested in extending their knowledge and experience as a coach. Additional topics such as biomechanics, goaltending and further structure of a hockey season are added to the Level I modules to complete the curriculum for the Level II course.

If you’d like to receive more information on upcoming courses, development opportunities, or have a suggestion for great coaching development please email the Coaching Director at coachingdirector@icehockeysa.com.au.

Report an Incident or Injury
Need to report an incident?
Fill in our Incident Report Form.

Need to report an Injury?
If you are injured while playing or training in sanctioned activities, it is important that you follow the steps below. Especially if you take any time out from the activity (even a few minutes to recover).
  • Make sure your coach knows. They will organise any first aid you may need, and they will let the association know about your injury by using the In-Game Injury Report .
  • Get checked out if you need. If there is any suspicion of concussion, don’t second guess this. Go to a GP or emergency department and get checked out.
    • All benches have a Concussion protocol form on display (CRT6) to help identify early signs of concussion.
  • Fill out the IHA Injury report. This lets us know more about your injury and any possible recovery time. It also helps the association track recurring injuries in our leagues.
  • If you need to make an insurance claim, you should now have all you need to be able to do this. Always access the form from the IHA insurance site to ensure you have the most current document.
    • You have 30 days from injury to submit your claim, which includes information completed by your treating physician.

The notices and QR Codes to access the various forms are located at the Ice Arena on the side of the IHSA Lockers (near Change Room 4) for easy access.
Always follow directions on the IHSA or IHA website for up-to-date information on making a claim.
