Swiftsure Restaurant & Lounge: Notice Board
August 15, 2008 Swiftsure has another Great Season |
|
The Swiftsure ball team wrapped up the 2008 season by taking the League title with an imprssive 21-3 record. Last night they also took the title of Playoff champs by defeating a very scrappy Bart's team that hung in tight. It wasn't until the 6th inning when Swiftsure broke a 3-3 tie by scoring 5 runs in the 6th and then closing the door in the seventh to take the game 8-3.
This season had some very good highlights and some very good individual performances but it is the team work that reall y makes this great team. Some of the other team accomplishments this year was winning the Umpires Tourney, second in the MacPark Tourney and some good play at the Kokanee Classic( still think they need a name change to Lucky Classic). It has been a pleasure playing with all of you guys again this year and all the best to the 2009 season.

May 12, 2007 Swiftsure blanks Emery |
|
Swiftsure improves to 3-0 after defeating Emery on the strong pitching of Sam and Dan mopped up the last inning. This was a steady attack as Swifsure scored in every inning except the 4th (Bud, Chris, Jay and Naylor up that inning). The offence started in the 1st when Cardiff reached on an error and Jay Smith hit a high flyball that got taken with the strong Macpark wind and landed on the other side of the fence for a 2-0 lead. In the 4th inning Jonathon Naylor again made a pitcher pay the price for throwing him a change up as he belted his 2nd home run of the year to make it a 5-0 game after 3 innings. In the 5th inning the Swifties wrapped it up by scoring 4 on the strength of Bud Livingstone who had his second triple of the game in that inning. |

May 7, 2007 Swiftsure Opens with an Impressive Win |
|
The Swiftsure team took on the tough Sooke Junior team facing Koster on the mound. It turned out to be a pitchers duel as it remained scoreless until the top of the forth. That is when Showers with an 0-2 count hit a blast to left to make it 1-0 Swiftsure, an inning later Isreal hit another shot to center to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the 5th Sooke finally got to Aldrich. With a runner on 1st Sooke hit a line drive to Left that took a bad skp on the wet grass the eluded the outfielders and allowed Sooke to score there first run and make it a 2-1 game after five. Then another long ball hit By Naylor who sat on a belt high Change up and launched it to Left center for a 3-1 lead. It went to the 7th and now the hitters started to come through. Swiftsure with runners on 2nd and 3rd hit a roller to 3rd and with the runner going on contact scored at the plate(not how it really happened but sounds better). Then with runners again at 2nd and 3rd J. Smith hit a Lazor to Right to score the 2 runners and make it a 6-1 lead going into the bottom of the 7th. Sooke had a small rally in the 7th that came up short as the Swifties closed out the game with a 6-3 victory. |

May 7, 2007 Swiftsure Wins on Crown Royal Night |
|
A great night down at Mac Park for this game as the sun Finally shines in Victoria. In this game Juricic took to the mound and had a strong first outing. Swiftsure were shut down in the 1st but scored 2 in second on back to back RBI singles by Penner and Rogers. In the 3rd they sent 8 batters to the plate and scored 3 with 2 coming off the bat of Whip Cream Smith as he lined a double to the gap. The Sooke squad also responded with a few runs of there own with a couple long balls to make it tight. Then Juricic took maters into his own hands and pulled a ball ( if he were a lefty) down the right feild line for solo shot. Then later in the Inning with 2 on Showers hit a liner to the gap for a double and cashed in both runners making it 8-5. Juricic seemed to find his groove in the last few innings mowing down the Sooke players on route to his 1st win of the season. |

June 21, 2006 Juricic Pitches a Gem Against Rival Smithson |
|
The Swiftsure Team had a very exciting game against Smithson Drilling on this Monday Night. Juricic stepped to the hill with confidence and a new found swagger. He shut down Smithson in the first and strander base runners on all the pillows. Swiftsure then went to bat and Ray Spouse Ripped a ball to the wall and came away with a lead off triple. The next two batters went down to Willie Gowers bringing Roy "any fish" Carver to the plate with two out. After a battle with Willie he fisted one out to short right scoring Spouser from third. In the 4th inning with bases loaded and none out it looked like Smithson was sure to score. BUT NO!!!!!! The Swifties pulled out a great Home to First Double play, Juricic took it into his own hands and struck out the next batter ending the Smithson Threat. I the bottom of that inning with one on Jay "I love the Internet" Smith hits a shot to center giving Swiftsure a 3-0 lead. It would stay that way until the 7th when Smithson hit a 2 run shot of there own. It was too little too late as Juricic shut the door on Smithson with by far his best pitching performance of the year. |
