USA South vs. USA Midwest
HILLSBORO, Ore.- The athleticism of the USA South and Midwest was just to much for Canada and France in the semifinals of the Nike Global Challenge. One of the night's standouts for the USA was Adonis Thomas scoring 31 points.
USA South 113, Canada 99
The Canada team ran into a buzz-saw defense when it faced the talented USA South team in the final game of the day. Canada committed 19 turnovers, and Adonis Thomas continued to get to the rack all night long by beating defenders in transition and scoring a game high 31 points on 13-20 shooting. Thomas' is super athletic and will play in the Boost Mobile Elite 24 in Los Angeles
The MVP of the Nike Global Challenge will be P.J. Hairston. The soon to be North Carolina Tar Heel dropped threes right out of the gate by knocking down 6 out of 8 in the first half and finished strong with a solid 27 points.
Canada's Khem Birch is a player that has great potential to play in the NBA and really displayed his talent despite his team losing, by scoring 23 points on 10-12 shooting from the field, 11 rebounds, 2 assist, 3 blocked shots, and 2 steals.
USA West 104, All-Asia 91
Nick Johnson was the game's high scorer with 32 points on 13-24 shooting from the field and set the gym on fire with 24 points in the first half. Johnson can do it all on the court any time he wants to turn on the magic and show he can play with the best in the country. I wouldn't be surprised to see Johnson competing in the Boost Mobile Elite 24 at the end of August in Los Angeles.
Josiah Turner belongs on the National stage and continues to show why he has the ability to play against the best defensive players be it man or zone defense. Turner stretches the 2-3 zones and penetrates the gaps to set up assists that can't be made by the ordinary point guard. He had an opportunity to play with Johnny O' Bryant 6'10" Power forward from Cleveland Mississippi, who has at least 32 high major scholarship offers. Mr O'Bryant
is a raw talent and plays with a mean demeanor and is as good as many of the other big men in his class. He is a physical re-bounder who runs the court really well and you could see the excitement in his eyes as he teamed with Josiah Turner an NBA possibility that has excellent court vision and can break down a defenses with his exceptional talent. One thing Turner will need to do is start to look to creating his own shot and enhancing his shooting range. If he can improve in this area, this will place a "cherry" on the top of his game and improve his NBA draft possibilities.
Turner had a solid day with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists and O' Bryant put up a double-double 17 points and 12 Rebounds
USA East 73, Brazil 69
James McAdoo 6'8" is putting up strong numbers again scoring 20 points on 9-25 shooting and snagging a game high 11 rebounds. James McAdoo 6'9 runs the floor and plays the game with ease a solid University of North Carolina recruit that will need at least two years of development before playing the NBA. McAdoo really attacks the offensive glass and has a high basketball IQ. This is one of the reason he was awarded the Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year in 2009 and he was the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year at the young age of 16 years old. McAdoo was the youngest recipient in the 30-year history of the award.
Michael Gbinije 6'6 committed to Duke put up the second best numbers for the East with 17 points on 6-10 shooting, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
USA Midwest 78, INSEP France 59
Behind the inspired point guard play of Jahii Carson,a balanced attack and aggressive team defense, the USA Midwest earned a birth into the championship game.
Carson consistently broke down the defense with his penetration and found teammates and knocked down jumpers. On 50 percent shooting he scored 13 points to go along with six assists, and five rebounds. Carson was also the the teams defensive motivatior for the Midwest's spirited man to man defense.
Leading the Midwest in scoring was high energy forward Dominique Pointer who scored 16 points on 50 percent shooting , grabbed 10 rebounds, came up with seven steals and dished out four assists.
Guards Bradley Beal and Carlton Brundidge added 14 points each as well.
